Working out was something I dabbled in for several years with no dedication. I'd walk almost every evening after work or on my lunch hour with a friend but never applied myself to actually start transforming my body. In July of 05 our son was in a serious car accident. He spent 56 days in the hospital; 28 in a drug induced coma and all of those 56 days but 7 in the ICU. He had numerous injuries to recover from; one being a crushed pelvis. From Sept 05 to Feb 06 we spent every day taking him to PT and doctoring wounds as he learned to walk again and regain strength. Although he was improving my body was losing ground and I gained over 30 lbs. In Feb 06 when his physical therapist told him he was ready for a gym to keep improving, our entire family joined. It was then that I determined it was finally time for ME to improve! I found a gym with an awesome aerobics instructor and started doing her class four nights a week and on Saturday morning. She not only introduced me to step aerobics but taught me how to do basic body building moves using dumb bells.
Why I Love It:
It didn't take me long to start seeing improvements in my body once I started doing aerobics with her. I committed to the classes and wouldn't allow myself to miss one because I knew if I started missing I'd start allowing myself to make excuses as to why I didn't need to go. The progress I was seeing started to make me not only feel like I was accomplishing something but I was finally doing something for ME and ME time is vital to everyone!
How I Stay Motivated:
After a year of aerobics I accomplished a weight loss goal - and a personal trainer at the gym I was going to kept telling me I needed to add weight lifting to start toning up since I had lost the weight. My motivation comes from the way I now feel about my body - I don't hesitate to walk into a dressing room anymore and the compliments I hear from others about my accomplishments keeps me want to keep on improving the way I look. It took me 23 years to lose my baby fat (my twins are 23 now and I'm as small now as I was right after I gave birth to them) and it's been so great to know it's all from my hard work and dedication!
BB Accomplishments:
I started out weighing 179 lbs. wearing a size 12 and almost needing to go into a 14. I've lost 43 lbs and 33 inches overall. I feel better today than I have in my entire adult life!

Although this was a very special occasion (our 25th wedding anniversary) I just was not happy with how I looked!
Another before shot to monitor the changes I hope to see in three weeks. What I like about this picture is my back is starting to take better form and after all these years - I finally have a waist! The buns aren't resting on my hamstrings anymore either! Yippee!
I want to see definition. I used to think all I wanted to tone up was my legs but I think I really just want to see as much definition all over my body as I can see. Realizing my body isn't 20 years old anymore is only part of it - when I was that age I had no idea what I wanted for myself healthwise - now I have determined to become the best I can be so old age doesn't creep up on me and scare the hell out of me and make me wonder how I got in that shape to begin with!
Why is it that grey overcast skies, short days, long nights and cold weather cause one to crave carbs? I've been fighting (and giving in to) the urge to load up on carbs for the past month. Don't ask me why but it felt like an uncontrollable urge and although I was continuing to work out...
Monday - legs / back - HIGH reps
Tuesday - triceps / shoulders / abs - HIGH reps
Wednesday - chest / biceps / abs - HIGH reps
Thursday - 1 hour cardio
Friday - Out to dinner with my baby
Saturday - Cardio - either on the treadmill at the gym or a nice walk outside
Sunday - REST

Hey Ms Laura, I have completed my first year of healthier living and even thought I didn't hit my target, I am still improving and feeling better about myself. I just wanted to say thanks for the support!!! Couldn't have gotten this far without you!!! Thanks...Andre'
Hey Lady, I feel ya, it is hard to shake the doldrums, but the results are always worth it. I have always lifted in military gyms, so overcrowding is just another obstacle to overcome. I know you can do it. Too easy, right???
yeah I have been out of there for awhile... we moved to St Simons Island when I was young and thats where I grew up. I still have family in Bowden... but they come down here for obvious reasons.
Hey you have done great! I know exactly where Breman is! I used to live outside Bowden in a small community called "lucky" Congrats on what you have done and good luck in the future!
