At my heaviest point I was weighing two-hundred and eighty pounds but when I started working out in January of 2006 I was weighed two-hundred fifty two pounds and thirty-three percent was body fat; very little had changed until I had met Kevin and Denise James in the summer of 2006. Kevin and Denise gave me the best advice that changed me forever. The advice was if your nutrition is not there you are wasting your time at the gym and ever since then I have changed my diet. After that the weight and body fat started dropping. In November 2006 I started working with a personal trainer at gold’s gym in Arlington, Washington. After two months of working with a personal trainer I had noticed that they were holding a transformation contest at the gym so I entered the contest weighing 212 pounds and 15.1%body fat; at the end of the twelve weeks I was at 192 lbs and 10% body fat. Around the time I had finished the body transformation contest Kevin and Denise told me about getting me on stage at the 2007 Washington state natural bodybuilding and fitness championship for the INBF. The day of the competition I weighed 169 lbs and 5% body fat. At the age of forty I competed in my first bodybuilding show, I loved it. Then in 2008 competed in two shows for the INBF; so far in 2009 I have competed in one bodybuilding show in Falls Church, VA (The Natural North American) where after my forth competition I won the novice overall. Now I’m currently getting ready for one more this year in Arlington, Washington where I will be competing in the open class middle weight class for the first time on August 8th 2009.
Why I Love It:
Working out is so relaxing for me and relieves stress. My new found love for bodybuilding is driven by wanting to get better for the next show and better myself in the process.
How I Stay Motivated:
Through a lot of self determination for wanting to compete in bodybuilding and with the help and motivation of 2 of the best people I know Kevin and Denise (promoters for the INBF).
BB Accomplishments:
While competing in my 4th bodybuilding show winning the novice overall at the 2009 natural North American in Falls Church, VA on 30 May 09. Now it’s time to move up to the open division for the INBF Washington State Natural Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships on 8 August 09.
Gain muscle and size to compete in my next bodybuilding competition in May and maintain for another show in August.
Goal (Long):
My main goal other than gaining muscle and size is to work on my lower abs from where I lost all my weight. I want to be ready for many more bodybuilding competitions.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 23 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
3%
Upcoming Contest:
4th Annual NBF Washington State Natural Bodybuilding, Fitness and Figure Championships
Hey, man.
Great work on your contests. Was 2009 your first year competing? I know this year won't be your last. Seems addictive ;-]
I've got some members on BB.com trying to convince me to get up there next year. Thinking I'd like at least 10 more leans pounds on. But I've got to get my neck and delts up to snuff.
Anyway, good work. It's nice to see natural athletes on the site.
Cheers!

Thanks for the encouragement. No, I work out at home right now. Might join the Boeing fitness center after my boxer pup settles down. Just entered a 50 day Holiday challenge in the Burn the fat feed the muscle forum. Nothing like a competition for motivation

Congratulations Gary. Every year you come in bigger and tighter and your commitment to this sport is admirable. I hope you have a great off-season and make the gains you'd like. It was fun to hang with you backstage and appreciate your support. Thanks. Mark
