In tenth grade I remember sitting at my desk and flexing my bicep. Nothing was there except mush! So I had to do something about it. That exact night I found 5 lb dumbbells in my house and the journey started. A journey I am still making.
Why I Love It:
I love the way it makes me feel. Feeling strong, being able to lift a certain amount of weight, however much, it really does leave a lasting impression. Yeah, it's also an ego boost but for me it makes me feel like anything is possible to accomplish. The same thing applies with the guitar; I have been playing the guitar eight years and being able to practice something and have something come out of it; it has the same effect.
How I Stay Motivated:
Thinking about being out of shape or weak is what keeps me motivated. That might seem condescending, like I look down on people who are weak, but believe me I don't. I feel it is important to stay healthy.
BB Accomplishments:
I always wanted a big bench press. Some of my friends who I played sports in school with had huge benches; like 235, 265, and I have a friend who benches well over 300. Now even though it was short lived, my greatest achievements in body building would be in April of 2004. After years of doing push ups and working around a 135-155 bench, and after working out with friends constantly, I could rep 205lb three times. Another achievement of mine would be doing 1100 sit ups one night (I did two sets of 300 and two sets of 250) thanks to years of ab workout in my bedroom before bed each night. And by April of 2004 I could do two consecutive sets of 125 push ups a set.
However, I now have a tear in the clavicular area of my pectoral tendon due to a pulling of the area when warming up back in '05, the tear occurred in July of '06. Obviously this has hindered me a bit, but it hasn't stopped me totally. Message me if you're interested in reading a story about that tear.
Lastly, I know these achievements might not seem that great to some but they mean the world to me. These days as opposed to strength gains I focus mostly on endurance, something I recommend to all.
