When I Started:
Feb, 2006
How I Started:
I worked out in college but I didn't really have a clue about bodybuilding. Weighed 175 with some muscle but had a high BF%. Started working out again in 2004 but have had to work thru a couple of rotator cuff strains, a pulled muscle in my back, and most recently tennis elbow. 4 injuries in 3 years - very disappointing to say the least!
Why I Love It:
OK I'll be honest --- I'm vain, so it's mainly about the look LOL. Also, working out gives me energy to keep up with my 4 kids. I LOVE the pump and also the soreness in my pecs the day after a hard workout.
How I Stay Motivated:
Motivation is no problem for me. Bodybuilding is engrained in every facet of my life.
I was a VERY skinny kid growing up - I would only take my shirt off to swim or take a shower. Keep in mind that I grew up in the South where most boys went shirtless in the spring and summer. Needless to say I stuck out like a sore thumb. A lot of my motivation comes from the embarrassment I felt as a skinny teen.
Also, I stay motivated by looking in the mirror (and seeing progress!), seeing some of the incredible physiques on this site, and comments from others.
I believe my body is God's temple, so I try to take good care of it. Exercising regularly, eating right, not smoking, and getting enough rest are the biggies!
BB Accomplishments:
Being able to bench 225 on the Smith machine and run 3 miles at age 40.

This is what I looked like in 2004. I weighed about 175 pounds and was working out but had no clue about my diet.
Ultimate goal: I'd like to be 170 lbs with a lean, muscular look. I want to look good with my shirt off!
Goal (Long):
I've accepted the fact that my shoulders are not going to allow me to lift really heavy. I injured my left shoulder several years ago and whenever my bench press approaches 225 it starts to ache. So I'm going for the cut, muscular look. By June 1, 2008 I'd like to be 165 lbs and fairly cut. I don't measure BF%, but I'd like it to be in the 10-11% range.
Worked my chest and tris this morning. Didn't go heavy at all -- last year I pulled a muscle in my back and I think I may have aggravated it slightly. So took it easy today. Did flat bench and incline presses on the Smith machine. 4-5 sets on the pec deck and some Triceps...
Philippians 4:13? I love that scripture! It's one of my all time favorites. You might want to check out my website. I dedicated an entire page called "Bible Verses." I think you'll appreciate it. www.muscularchris.com God bless you brother!
I've made progress but now it seems like I not gaining mass or losing weight or gain on bench or nothing. So I guess I am going to have to mix it up some and see what happens. I do have to say I went to the Beacon like 3 weeks ago, maybe that is what happened. lol

Yeah, woodcutting is good exercise. Always busy and moving heavy objects. And best of all, outdoors. I would actually be enjoying it if it were not keeping me from the gym.
Hey Dude, how`ve you been? Workouts are none existent for me. Albeit temporarily. Cutting next seasons firewood until the farmers oust me to plant crops.
and you're not? ;) -- Yeah I understand. In the 80s when I was skinnier, chest hair was cool, but now it's looked down on and made fun of. Sigh...what to do? I still kinda like the hair.
