When I Started:
Aug, 2009
How I Started:
I've never thought of myself as an athlete. I ran cross country in high school and that was my first positive experience with fitness. I loved the strength training and feeling powerful, but I let it slide for other interests. I've always been very thin, and I never really thought about it until after my failed pregnancy at 21. I gained between 15 and 20(around 130) pounds and it scared me because I honestly believed my body would be exactly the same. I'd been very ill and it took a severe toll on my body. After I recovered enough I embarked on losing the weight and reclaiming my body. I walked, ran, and did pilates and discovered a love of fitness. Unfortunately, I was severely restricting my calories and I didn't achieve the body I desired and fell into some really unhealthy self-destructive habits. Eventually I relaxed my restrictions a little but I was still unhappy with my body. I joined a gym and started working out a more often (mostly marathon cardio sessions), and began lifting a little, tentatively. Someone close to me gave me some honest feedback about my body and a lot of encouragement and I've run with it. I'm lifting now heavier and eating more and I'm really excited about what it's doing for me and the progress I'm making.
Why I Love It:
I want to see just what my body is capable of at it's best. I love seeing myself get stronger.
How I Stay Motivated:
I would like to do something else eventually when I get tired of flying. I realize my diminutive size and strength really limits me in my choices to more sedentary occupations and traditional girly jobs. I need to be able to drag, lift, carry, haul stuff(and people) in a way I can't really do yet. Even as an FA, I have a responsibility to my passengers and fellow crew to know that I can get them out if they become incapacitated in an emergency evacuation.
BB Accomplishments:
I can leg press 200 lbs. Which to me is a pretty big deal.
I want to add muscle and shape to my body, and increase my overall strength and endurance. I want to know what my body can look like and what it can do when it is at its best.
I took a nap after my duty day ended today, set the alarm for 5:50 PM. When it went off I thought it was morning 5:50 AM, and that would make me half an hour late for work. I freaked out, jumped right out of bed and started getting dressed. Then realized that it was still night time.
So now I...
