This is SC checking in with all the hardcore. This is off season for most so let's focus on bieng safe but making those much needed gains. Keep us all up to date with upcoming contests and whatever (PRs) you make. Knowing this keeps us all motivated to do better. Let's give it hell SC!!!!!
Hey how is the training going? 105 pound db press is pretty impressive. Most dumbell press events in strongman comp. uses the thick dumbell. So remember to work your forearms and grip along with presses. later
If you can not find someone who has stones, than I suggest finding you a big rock, as round as possible, weighing 200-250 pounds and pick it up over and over. This will strengthen the muscles needed to do the atlas stones. Just remember the atlas stones will not have any edges to grip hold of and they are very slick. Invest in some tacky before your show. This will help. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
The second part of the lift envolves Biceps and back. You have to curl/row the stone up to your chest. Once you reach this point the rest is all lower back and legs, now you have to stand up with it.I suggest you get on the web. and find a gym near you that has strongman equipment (stones) and practice. I could not do the heavy stones until I made my own and worked with them every day.
Atlas Stones are tough.I think they take more technique than strength. If you have never worked with an atlas stone, than you might have some trouble.A round slick stone is more diffucult to lift than a barbell or dumbell. You will need a strong grip and very strong forearms, that is the first part of the lift.
floor press is a bench press alternative and used to help increase yr "lockout" strength. the ability to press more wt at the top portion of the range of motion. good luck and train hard!
