Overall Goal: When I signed up for a trainer at the local gym near the end of 2007, I basically told her I wanted to look good in a tank top.

When I Started:
Jul, 2007
How I Started:
Decided I wanted a muscular physique, if possible.
Why I Love It:
I don't enjoy it; I do it because I think it's good for me.
How I Stay Motivated:
I have a trainer, and I've made progress. Friends and family have seen and commented on my progress.
I've now been a regular at the local gym for over a year and a half. I've made progress, and I'm determined to keep building.
BB Accomplishments:
Body fat reduced from 23% to 14%; gain of perhaps 10lbs of muscle; am now able to bench press about 15lbs over my own weight.
7/3/09: Actually, I don't really know what progress I've made in terms of body fat. In retrospect, I'm not convinced I've yet gotten an accurate measurement.
Probably the best indicator of progress is the unsolicited observations made by friends and family. Then, too, I have noticed my clothes fitting differently.

First progress picture. Age 44.5. I started working with a trainer a year and a half before this was taken.
Measurements, taken 7/2/09 at 24 Hour Fitness: Neck 15.5, Chest 41, Upper Arm 14, Forearm 11.5, Waist 35.5, Hip 41, Thigh 20, Calf 14; Body Weight 187.5.
This is the first side shot I'm including. I put it here to show the degree to which the mid-section protrudes.
I was inspired by Brian's Transformation of the Week article, in which he gives an account of a major reduction in body fat and increase in muscle mass in less than a year. It encouraged me to set my own sights higher and hope for better results than I'd come to expect.
Ah, yes, the vacillation continues... Yesterday I drove down to 24 Hour Fitness to get my measurements taken, and I received a most discouraging report: chest down about 1.25 inches, arms down .5 inch, body fat up 3%. This, in spite of the fact that I have been working out and had...
what I see in the profile shot is the ridges in the abs! Well over 95% of the male population (and that most definitely includes ME) can't boast that one. :) Don't get bummed by the latest measurements .. just keep plugging away. You're doing good .. making progress. :)
