I visited my uncle in Australia, and after always being a big boy (he he) it was my uncle's idea and my mother's encouragement to get me down the gym to lose weight.
Little did they know at that point...
I visited the Colliseum Gym, and that's where I met the "new world"... Now I didn't start with the weights straight away.
I was introduced to them by the training instructor, along with the cardio workout they always throw at you, and that was me for 3 months, day in day out. Weights and cardio combined, without really getting into lifting properly.
When I got back to England, I started a new job and met new friends and I again wanted to hit the gym. So had a look around and joined a local one.
It was actually here that I started with the whole weights thing, as I had met Thorn Dixon who was a work colleague and ended up my training partner for quite a while.
He had taken part in local competitions before and it was him who introduced me into the world of Bodybuilding.
Why I Love It:
I love it because it is an escape for me from everyday life, and I love the feeling you get afterwards from a really good session.
The pump feels great, and after a while people start commenting on your body.
I am still a large fella' so can't really see any muscle definition but people can always tell when I've put on mass, and they note how strong I get, which in my line of work, is very flattering...
How I Stay Motivated:
I have a confession... I have only just started lifting again very recently after burning myself out nearly 10-11 months ago, and losing all motivation to go, but there were also other factors that contributed to my demotiviation.
At the moment, it's the feeling I get again, which I had forgotten.
I'm also looking forward to seeing the changes my body takes, especially in the next 8 months as I have a wedding to go to, and gotta get back in that Darn suit that's been hanging in the back of the wardrobe :-)
BB Accomplishments:
Apart from when I started and jumping up the weights rack very fast (that even my employers were asking if I was taking steroids - was annoyed but that's another story), the most major thing I can think of to date was a 10 rep leg press with 305 Kg which is about 672 pounds
