Background

When I Started: Aug 2007
HOW I STARTED:

I have always been physically active - I was a competitive gymnast when I was younger and I play tennis regularly. I like anything that requires discipline and dedication... So I naturally gravitated towards weightlifting.

WHY I LOVE IT:

I love the commitment it takes and the self discipline to succeed. I also love the strategy behind the training and always trying to figure out what to do next and how to constantly improve.

Seeing everyone elses progress and talking with other accomplished bodybuilders on BodySpace. Sometimes it is hard to stay motivated, but I generally try to mix up my routine often so I don't get bored. Also, if I don't like a particular exercise, I won't do them. There is no sense of doing something you hate.

Super Calves

OK guys.... I've been asked to post my training for calves. My approach to training calves is the same as any other muscle group - they are given their own day(s) and I mix up the training regularly. I usually start off with heavy lower reps... then move to 10-12 rep medium weight range... and finish with lighter weight in the 15+ rep range. My good ol' standby routine looks like this:


Heavy weight: (2 minutes rest between sets)


Calf Presses (done on the leg press machine) 3 X 8-10 reps

Where do I begin?!? It seems like only a week ago I entered this contest! Although I didn't loose as much weight as I would have wanted (lost 12 lbs total) I am pleased overall that I was still able to retain my muscle mass and even added 1/2 " to my arms! I dropped the weight slowly (roughly 1lb a week) by incorporating longer duration/low intensity cardio and carb cycling. I also focused on moderate/lower weight and higher reps to try and bring out more separation and detail. Hey everybody! Well, I have 12 weeks to get into the best shape of my life - and I'm totally stoked! My focus is really getting my BF% down to around 7% and still hold on to my existing muscle mass. Obviously, my diet is going to need to be spot on which has historically been my biggest challenge. I have a game plan in place and very excited and motivated to get started. I will keep you all posted with weekly updates.

michael80 I am doing great thanks man!! I have been focusing on improving definition and the shape of my body, not just adding size to my body at any cost, if you know what I mean? Being more vigilant on my cardio, focusing on hitting muscles from all angles, and also focusing more on abs than I do normally. Feeling pretty good about it all. How about you?? May 3, 2012 4:37am
