Background

When I Started: Nov 2009
HOW I STARTED:

When I couldn't play with my kids without worrying about ME getting hurt instead of them, I decided to strengthen my body so I can be here for the long haul. I began by just doing push ups in the morning. Then added a few sit ups and eventually dug up the dumbells buried in the garage. Now I just joined a gym 1/27/10.

WHY I LOVE IT:

It is a great way to improve self confidence. Sometimes you plateau and it saps your motivation, but if you just change your workout and work through it you can continue to improve. Although progress does slow down, you do still progress and that give you a great sense of achievment.

Time to regroup from the holiday weeken diet

Posted in Nutrition  :  May 30, 2011 10:57am
Just when I decide to cut back on the carbs to try an lean down, we go for a weekend getaway. I didn't do very well. That Key Lime pie was really good. Plus all this week the kids are away with my parents. The wife and I usually go out to a couple or few restaurants during these rare childless times. I guess we can still go out as long as I don't overindulge. I do need to learn how to teach myself that it is ok to eat smaller and better at restaurants. It must be psycological to feel I must get something "good" while I am out because we don't go out much. When in fact, I could get wh...

Disappointing Progress Pics

Posted in Other  :  Apr 27, 2011 5:47pm

Today's progress and gallery pics were quite disappointing.  I was tempted to not put any of them up and wait until they look better.  However I figure if I put them up it will give me motivation to work even harder to jump start the progress again.

I've been trying to add mass and I haven't been very successful.  I guess the easy gains are over.  Instead it looks like the new pounds are mostly fat.  Time to readjust the diet.

I've been looking into a few books to read.  Body For Life is the only one I have read so far.&nb

Some of the Best Motivation (for me)

Posted in Training  :  Mar 02, 2011 4:55pm

Today was a great day at the gym.  But it didn't start out that way.  It was unusually crowded.  I had to start my routine out of order and that always throws me off.  Some exercises are too easy and others too hard.  I never know if it was a good workout or not.

I have been stuck in a rut for awhile, not seeing any measurable gains after 8 weeks on a new training program.  I've made a couple of adjustments in diet and amount of weight lifted.  But it has been less than two weeks.  Now I know it takes time to see results of your eff

FlyingATY
FlyingATY You are exactly right. No overnight makeovers possible here, especially at our age. But we are doing pretty good for two 40-somethings, especially given our stressful occupations. May 10, 2012 2:16pm
FlyingATY
FlyingATY Thanks man! Not in your league yet, but working hard at it and getting better, just like you. Your transformation pictures are impressive. Let me know how your workouts and progress are going from time to time. May 10, 2012 1:32pm

mogwog Keep at it. Don't be afraid to try new things. All trial and error here. Just have to learn from any mistakes and move on. Once in a while I stumble across something that works out for me. Apr 30, 2012 10:29am

TheCrab I've gotten that request before and I will do just that. I'm sure it's not too far from what you've read elsewhere, but I can surely give my opinions and findings. Something might be of use to you. Apr 13, 2012 5:57pm
TheCrab
TheCrab Thanks. I have to say most of it was diet related, a piece of the puzzle I thought I had figured out. Come to find out I had the right pieces, just wasn't putting them in the right places. Apr 12, 2012 7:51pm

Newlylean
Newlylean http://www.musclehack.com/ Everything I do is right here. I will say nothing but great things about this program. Everything is free except his TSPA book. What is real cool is he even has my pictures in it. To answer your question about lifting heavy, I would say yes. No matter what program I am doing my first set is always heavy. Apr 12, 2012 4:19am
Newlylean
Newlylean Cool, thanks. Last year I was right were you are at as far as weight but I was a bit leaner, but you know how that goes. Since I have gained about 1.5 lbs a month and maintained right around 10%. It can be done! I got away from the diet and lifting last week on purpose just to shock my system and started to cycle creatine again, yesterday I was heavier than I have been in 3 years, so I think it worked. It was my first break in awhile and I feel strong. Keep up the hard work, you look great! Apr 11, 2012 4:35am

buffrx7 40 grams of protein is pretty good. Yeah, dark matter does have sugar. Apr 3, 2012 9:03pm

buffrx7 I've used dark matter on and off to help gain muscle and have been happy with it. It's worth it if you can get used to the taste. Apr 3, 2012 9:00pm

buffrx7 Do you use creatine or dark matter? Apr 2, 2012 9:54pm
