I wish I could say that I was always athletic and was fit, but truthfully I was never into any sports and didn't have much muscle mass. I gained a considerable amount of fat over my skinny frame over the years since high school was overweight and had high blood pressure (I graduated weighing 145lbs with a 29" waist) and ballooned to 220lbs and a 38" waist. My wife both decided to make a change in 2003. I was 33 years old before I ever started to lift or work out.
Why I Love It:
I'm totally addicted to lifting. I love the pump, the sore muscles, the feeling of accomplishment. It is the best stress reliever I know of. I lift as soon as I get home from work. I look forward to working out and seeing the changes in my body. Even though I am nowhere near where I want to be as far as body composition, size, etc., I look a lot better now than I ever have.
How I Stay Motivated:
Watching the changes in my body, and checking out other bodyspace profiles to see other peoples accomplishments. Here it is 3 years after I first started, and I am just now feeling like I'm starting to understand the importance of eating, recovery, etc. When I lost all of the fat, I was left with a very skinny body and not much muscle to show. Now I am trying to add muscle back which of course is adding fat back as well. A vicious cycle!
BB Accomplishments:
Losing the protruding belly and gaining some muscle

To be just a little bit bigger and stronger than I was yesterday.....

I realized when getting down this low in bf that I just did not have enough muscle. It just wasn't the look I had in mind when I got to around 10% bf.
Tricep (relaxed) - I can't believe how much it has grown!
To gain as much muscle as I can while keeping low to moderate bodyfat. I want broader shoulders, big chest, broader back, smaller waist, and bulging biceps that you notice even with a shirt on. And of course I want the 6 pack, baby! Not too tall of an order eh?
I "officially" ended my bulk last Monday, and began to change my diet up a bit. I am going to be "carb cycling". Since I work out after I get home, I am going to have very low to no carbs during the day, then have the bulk of my carbs post workout. This is how I...
Hey Jon, how cool is that, both started similar, bulked and are now starting to cut. I tell you it feels good eating a bit less, bulking with good food means you gotta a truck full!! I feel less bloated and cleaner, good luck man, we should keep track of each others progress.
Cheers
Hey bro, keep up the chase and thank-you for stopping by. Everyone starts somewhere and more importantly it's where we finish. I fooled around in Aggyville, K-State if you know what I'm talking about. There is no running like running in KS, except for OK maybe. Being Chased by bulls along their fence is always a great motivator to run faster.
Do it Big!
HVY D!
Thanks for the comment, hope you achieve your goals. im also going threw the bulking stage. Just started in january. I hope your low carb diet works as planned!
What up bro?! Thx for the comment, my 1st one too! Read ur prof, sux how we cant build muscle and drop fat simultaneously huh? Your chest looks to be coming along quite well, wish I could get a line goin like that! Keep pushin'!
thanks for the comment. regarding bf%, I use the hand held device and also a scale that has BF capabilites and both measure around 20-21%. I know these aren't the most accurate, but what do you suggest to get a truer measure? Is a caliper the best option?
yeah thanks dude.........i always figure i gotta boost my cardio to get shredded, but i dont wanna be dippin into my muscle.....plus cardio's borin...would rather spend the time liftin more weights
Jon,
Just read over your space - great stuff. You're making a lot of progress - your arms especially. Our stories are similar. Hope you're on track for the new year.
