When I Started:
Dec, 2008
How I Started:
Found an interesting 5x5 progressive powerlifting program online that got me going and motivated - I was tired of being a desk slug...
Why I Love It:
When I was a teenager I was skinny but relatively strong. Working with computers I got weak and un-skinny. Now I feel strong again, and I'm making progress on the skinny :).
How I Stay Motivated:
Progress! I look and feel better and stronger as every week passes! Plus it's an interesting hobby that you can make as simple or complex as you wish. If I need some extra motivation I just think about my lazy slob butt sitting in the office chair all day and I can go with no problem...
BB Accomplishments:
After four months of strength training and 6 weeks of dieting I like the way I look in a baithing suit for the first time ever. Although I was skinny as a teen I was scrawny, too. Also I feel much better, and I'm more confident performing as a singer/guitar player.
I looked pretty much the same from the time this was taken to the time I started working out (dec'08). I've been looking for some good 'before' pics, this will have to do for now... I weighed around 200 lbs, which was heavy for me at the time (prior to any weight training). I was normally 180 or ...
You can see my thighs better in this one - they have gained some size and definition, although my quads have always been relatively big. The shoulders and arms are much bigger than they have ever been, though... :)
Reduce body fat % while maintaining or increasing muscle mass.
Goal (Long):
I was sedentary for a couple years and gained more fat than I ever thought I'd let myself. I'm on my way to fixing that and keeping it fixed! I broke out of my sedentary life around christmas, 2008 (awesome gift to myself! - I estimate that I started off between 25% and 30% body fat), and have been doing a progressive powerlifting based strength training regimen since then. I gained a bit of weight doing that until I changed my deit to a 'slow carb' variation 5 weeks ago and started dropping some weight (fat). I'm going to stick with the powerlifting, light cardio, and diet for now, and track my body fat% and weight to ensure I'm losing fat and gaining or maintaining muscle.
I'm back on a full kettlebell program again, and loving it! I finished a bench and deadlift cycle (1 month) a few weeks ago and switched over to kettelbells. The program is great (pullups, swings, snatches, clean & presses), and is detailed in Pavel's book Enter the...
Enter the Kettlebell (dragondoor.com) Rite of Passage workout (September 2009-present) w/24kg and pullup addition (Kettelbell military presses/pullup ladders, swings, snatches)
I am still in the fight...yes sir. Thank you for the encouragement. I have tightend up my eating and this should loose to some good weight loss weeks...
