Background

When I Started: Jul 2004
HOW I STARTED:

Went through a crisis in life, needed an outlet, started lifting....then I got over the crisis....and didn't stop lifting, I fell in love :)

WHY I LOVE IT:

Its the physical epitomy of choice and will. Like Pacino says...its a game of inches...one workout, one meal...may mean very little in isolation. But years of workouts and meals makes a champion.

My Workout Program

I periodize my training over the course of the year into different cycles. I utilize a variety of programs. Some focusing on intensity, some focusing on volume. Frequency of training a bodypart is dependent on the recovery needs of my training, and my nutritional status, but normally falls between every 3-5 days. Volume and intensity are periodized to focus on periods of strength and hypertrophy based training which interact synergistically.
During prep volume is decreased and frequency is decreased to avoid risk of injury and compensate for decreased recovery due to lower calories and higher stress on the body due to added cardio.

I set out to capture my pro card as a goal in 2007, after my first season of competing. It has been something I've thought about a lot, to say the least, and it's been something that I had a lot of doubt around and internal struggle.

I've been here before, it felt different, things have changed and I'm a much different man yet I have a sense of deja vu as I sit down to write. In 2008 I sat back with hunger in my heart as I watched my best friend Alberto Nunez win three shows and three pro cards, bringing an incredible physique to the stage. It opened my eyes to what I had to do in 2009. Well, 2009 has come and gone. And I have to say it was nothing like I expected. I lost my father, I tore my hamstring, I came within inches of winning my pro card several times, I met some amazing people, I helped start Team 3DMJ and I grew...
