180 degree turn on my workout style...
My staple was powerlifting for the first 10 years I was training. Lifting to better myself to play football. Got more into bodybuilding lifting (more controlled reps, more reps, less rest), but the diet remained terrible. I would go in spurts of weight loss here and there, but nothing ever sustained. Then this past year, after I graduated college, I decided to get more serious. I have dropped around 40 lbs. this year. And recently decided I wanted to follow in my dad (RIP) and grandpa's (RIP) shoes, and join the Air Force (Commissioned Officer in the Nurse Corps). I began to run...a lot. Being heavier, I got shin splints real bad and even Achilles tendonitis. Lost some more weight and now am a running machine (well, moreso than I have ever been). I try to run 4-5 days a week-alternating jogging distance, running 1.5 miles for time (Air Force PT test is 1.5 miles), and running intervals beyond my goal pace. My lifting hasn't changed much... I do a lot of supersets. Some days I will run a half mile at goal pace, do some supersets, run half mile at goal pace, etc., repeat, repeat, repeat. I try to incorporate situps and pushups 3-4 times a week. Overall, it has been good to me changing it up... I'm still dropping the weight and keeping my strength in my sets.
