"Because of the disease of Multiple Sclerosis and it's progression I need to use a cane to get around everywhere I go these days. So being at the gym is a challange but I love it and gaining muscle in this off season is my main focus :-)"

This contest ment a lot to me because it was my fisrt time in just under 2 years that I was in the men's open and not the physically chalanged class. This past summer after FAME in June I went right back to the gym and hit the weights as hard as I could to prepare for the Classic in November.
Although I can't preform any type of cardio anymore I put all my focus on my dieting and my style of working out. To lose body fat I would do a workout that my first trainer gave me back in June of 2002 called the "metabolic meltdown"
Here it is: 50 reps are done with each movement. Leg press, dumbell fly's, shoulder press, bicep curls, lower leg curls, ab crunches, Lat pull downs. To preform these I would use the weight that allows me to do 50 rep's for each movement so not heavy at all. After I do 50 rep's of each I usually drop on the floor for 90 seconds or so untill I catch my breath and then I would do the cycle again. Do 3 sets of the meltdown. If you wonder why it is called the meltdown then try this workout when you are carb depleating and can hardley walk into the gym to even start the workout, and then you will see why it is called the meltdown because that is what you do. "Meltdown", and what a rush it is when I finish it. I love the name of this workout. Thanks Andy.
I was so happy to look like I did for the event and placing 3rd was another awesome feeling and after I did my routine to the music from the the T.V. show "House" (theme song) and walking and posing using my cane at the same time, can you believe that the audience gave me an awesome standing ovation. Now that is a buzz you just can't buy in a bag. The show was incrediable and I can't wait to compete with the IDFA again. All the competitors that I have met at the shows have been so awesome and in the backstage area nobody talks about the dieting at all because even though everyone may be a little different on how they diet it sucks for everyone so competition day is something that we all work our ass off for, why bother talking about it. When it comes to food we just say where the first place that we will eat at. haha.
It is so much fun at the events. Every event is a special one. 14 contests to my name so far. |
