Overall Goal: Because of the disease of Multiple Sclerosis and it's progression I need to use a cane to get around everywhere I go these days. So being at the gym is a challange but I love it and gaining muscle in this off season is my main focus :-)

When I Started:
Apr, 2002
How I Started:
I have always enjoyed working out at the gym just for something to do and to keep in shape. After I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1999 I couldn't believe it. After dealing with the diagnosis andspent a year and a half or so just sitting around and waiting for the disease to progress I decided to see if I could still workout properly.
I have always wondered how intense it would be to become a competitor in bodybuilding so I tried a contest in Toronto 4 years ago with FAME in 2003. Now I am hooked on becoming the best bodybuilder that I can be.
Why I Love It:
I just love to stay in shape and even though I have to walk with a cane these days to help keep my balance, I still workout just like everyone else does. Some people will say that my training is making me worse and making the disease progress faster then if I didn't workout at all. Thing is, M.S. will progress just like other conditions that are out there. So mabey this condition will eventually manifest into something very horriable but I don't want to go down without a fight at all. A lot of people wonder how I do what I do while I have a wicked disstortion in my walking ability and can't preform any type of cardio at all.
I am into this lifestyle of bodybuilding to prove to myself that I can still do it :-)
How I Stay Motivated:
Staying motivated at times is hard because when I wake up I know what to expect on how I will feel but never knowing if the progression has gotten that much worse or not. M.S. is a condition that is just awefull and sure I wish and pray that it would go away, but that isn't the case here at all. So in my life I have 2 choices and that is it. The first choice is to throw in the towel and give up on everything, or I can suck it up and not feel sorry for myself and give it everything that I can. After I complete a routine during a contest I recieve a standing ovation from the audience and I have to admit that it does swell my eyes bigtime and fills my heart as well just knowing how people feel about me and what I am doing with myself to never give up the fight. These days I just love talking to people everywhere I go and people respect me for what I put myself through on a daily basis. I am going to the gym a a little while from now and I will chat with lots of people at my gym. Bally's gym is totally awesome and I love the members there.
BB Accomplishments:
To the date I have completed 14 contests. Just over a year ago I began to start in the physically challenged division due to some people saying that they had a hard time losing to a guy with a cane on stage. Well my last event I entered the men's open class where there were 4 guy's and I recieved 3rd. The other guy's in my class were healthy and able to do everything in the gym. So right now I am looking ahead to April where I will be going to N.Y. state to compete in the Northern States Super Natural. The biggest accomplishment that I will do is to be a guest on the Montel Williams show.
I keep asking myself if I could do this or not. Then I look at myself 10 years ago and see where I have been and went through and then realize that anything is possiable.

Goal (Long):
I want to keep on competing untill the day comes where it is impossiable to do it. By working out harder and smarter as the days go on I can see myself improving all the time.
I believe in the power of prayer and I pray all the time to keep my strength and endurance up.
Most people who will read this will know what it takes to be your very best. And if you wouldn't mind then can you please add me to your prayer list. I need all the help I can get these days.
Thanks

Hey Paul! Just checking in to see how you're doing. Great news on the latest MS vaccine prospects. Thanks for encouraging all of us who hope to be able to find the strength to handle Multiple Scleoris with as much fight and and the same great attitude as you do. Keep fighting!
Truly inspirational story. You have my utmost respect and admiration. Your physique is amazing for a 'healthy' person. Now add on that you have MS, and are not letting that stop you.... wow. I'm in awe. Congrats on achieving your goals. You deserve it.
Totally awesome physique Paul. Your determination and success is an inspiration to me and others for sure. I am now going to work even harder to not just achieve but surpass my goals. Keep training strong.
Awesome physique man, and your story is a truly an inspiration. It goes to show just what a person can accomplish when you are determined. It also shows that there is no reason for people who are completely healthy to not stay in shape! Good luck bro, I wish you the best!
