Although I had toyed with weights on and off for years I really got started in Western Australia when I hired a personal trainer during a sudden urge to lose weight. The trainer was a natural bodybuilder and I made quick progress and became fascinated with the subject.
Why I Love It:
I see training with weights as a life project. Until I began serious training I had chiefly been concerned with theology and philsophy. I write, play music, and had worked for some years in mental health. Bodybuilding, for me, is a case of "let's see what can be done". It's a challenge and an art form and has the added benefits of health, strength and improved energy and self-esteem.
How I Stay Motivated:
Motivation is never a problem - except maybe with nutrition. I read constantly and new ideas emerge from the reading. These ideas often find their way into my training - I like to change aspects of my training every 4-6 weeks on average.
BB Accomplishments:
I'm still fairly new to bodybuilding so my accomplishments are extremely modest - I've developed muscles that were previously indistinguishable lumps of lard.

Taken at my Personal Training Studio where I had commenced a bulking up routine a couple of months earlier. Prior to this I had chiefly been concerned with weight loss.
To reduce body fat to 10% and continue to build muscle.
Goal (Long):
There is an opinion that one should reduce body fat to 10% or lower before worrying about building muscle. I tend to agree but it doesn't really suit my mentality at the moment. Therefore I've decided upon a slower path, and, I suspect, harder. I hope to continue to build muscle at a steady rate whilst reducing fat at an equally steady rate.
So far the fat is going down slowly and the muscle is increasing ( a little faster).
I've set a deadline for reaching 10% fat. If the rate of progress is still slow as I get within 6 weeks of the deadline I'll have to concentrate more on fat loss and just try to maintain as much muscle as possible.
I overdid the deadlifts and squats last week and my lower back is still very sore. I've modified my training in order to rest lower back - I've dropped bent over rows in favour of machine rows and substituted leg press for squats. No deadlifts for the time being.
cheers Del. Not all done yet, still have the theory exam and first aid thang but shouldn't be long now. Really enjoyed the assessment today and got a perfect score!!! Michelle is now somewhat tired tho...
Yes 12 weeks out of our lives, I would say it will be the toughest 12 weeks, but actually I feel better by the day, so it will probably be the best 12 weeks!! xx
sounds like you're doing ok with body for life. Keep up the good work. I'm having a few days off but intend to throw in a few more runs to burn off the food I am about to consume.
Good luck with your 12 weeks challenge. I think we should put a wager on who can achieve the most dramatic change! My moneys on me, you've already done most of the hard work!!! xxx
I am loving being a personal trainer and enjoy working with people who want to make changes to their lives. I like the one on one interaction but I also have a couple of clients I am helping through emails etc.
I wish I had of done this 20 years ago.
