Overall Goal: "The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor to worry about the future, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly." (Buddha)

I have always been a "somewhat fit" individual rather than being "in shape." Like many, I confused doing tons of cardio and circuit training with being enough to get me the body I wanted. I also thought that because of my background and knowledge of anatomy, I would know what my body needed to best perform. Wrong!
After training and running in several races last year, including the Marine Corps Marathon (that I finished!), I realized that I was not as fit as I thought I was. After my husband and I "fell off the fitness wagon" for 3 months when we moved to the west coast for work, we both decided something needed to be done--- and soon!
Why I Love It:
Sense of accomplishment, the way it makes me look and feel.
How I Stay Motivated:
Reason one: practicing what I preach. No matter what setting I am working in, I strive to better my patients' health-- be it with the neurological population, cardiac, outpatient orthopedic, etc. I work as a motivator for my patients, and refuse to let them give up on themselves and "settle." Yet, I have been settling for my lackluster state of health!
I am a very goal oriented person. I like to follow through with what I say I am going to do. I also have a wonderful husband (also an OT) who has a wealth of bodybuilding knowledge that I haven't utilized until recently.
BB Accomplishments:
I recently became a Lacto-ovo vegetarian for various reasons. It is like learning to eat all over again to ensure I don't get stuck in a rut. My biggest accomplishment will be to refine my cooking, garner a new library of recipes, and find new and fabulous ways of eating. (My husband is still an omnivore-- nothing wrong with that--- but it makes our dinner times a bit more challenging ;)
First starting regimen. "Eating clean" for 6 weeks. This is what doing inconsistent cardio with no weight lifting gets you.
My friends call my legs "runners legs." I call them "not defined legs." Only reason why they aren't too awful is because of the aforementioned running.

What type of person at your gym annoys you the most? Why?
Two things- not putting your stuff back where you found it, cleaning ALL benches and machines after you use them. Poor form!

Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
Yes
Why or why not?
While not all of our family and friends are necessarily supportive of this type of lifestyle (we are noticing the strange looks we get with our diet and frequency of gym visits), we (husband and I) are both happy to have each other as support. My main motivator is the fact that one side of my family has a heavy history of heart disease and obseity that I do not wish to follow. Ultimately, I want my husband to always be proud to have me as a wife and find me attractive... and myself too! While not all of our family and friends are necessarily supportive of this type of lifestyle (we are noticing the strange looks we get with our diet and frequency of gym visits), we (husband and I) ar...more
So... I have been pretty horrid about keeping up with my food log as well as my workout log. What can I say? There are just not enough hours in the day. We have been sticking to our regimen for the most part (with a week off because of our dog and a trip to the vet). Other than that, it...
Thanks for the friend add :) It helps to have fitness friends even if you are like 500 miles away :P
btw do you have any good recipes for foods or fitness ideas you cannot live without. Feel free to share them with me. Also you look to have some beautiful skin in your picture. Whats the secret?
