Overall Goal: made some great gains this past year--now time to crank up the intensity get to single digit bf%! as God is my witness I will find those abs!!
I decided that when I turning 40 wasn't the end, but a beginning. I want to be happy/proud of who I am and an inspiration to my three young sons.
Why I Love It:
i love the pump, the adrenaline rush, and the results
How I Stay Motivated:
I try to keep my goals in mind. Guys who are also in their 40's but work hard and defy age, gravity, social norms and anything negative that comes their way to transform themselves into lean mean machines are an inspiration.
BB Accomplishments:
losing 80 lbs--guess that's more of a personal accomplishment
Forum Signature:
work hard, play hard & make 'em laugh.
life's too short for anything less.

Goal (Long):
I want to transform my body, build muscle, reduce fat to single digits and maitain a healthy lifestyle. It was only 4 years ago that I tipped the scales at 273 pounds. Not earth shattering, but when it's only fat, not something inspiring or self defining. I looked at my 3 young sons and decided I wanted to be around to see all of the great milestones in their lives. I also wanted to balance being a moral role model with being a healthy role model. I decided I wasn't chained to 40" waist pants and XXL shirts and set off on a weight loss and muscle building program. I haven't reached my ultimate goal, but I've lost 76 pounds (weigh just less than 200 now) and eat healthy and exercise regularly. I've got a ways to go, but the light at the end of the tunnel burns pretty bright
Jeff's discipline is exemplified in his running and weight triaining. he's recently placed in his first competition at the age of 41 proving that what defines you is your attitude and your determination. plus he's never too preoccupied to offer a constructive tip or word of encouragement. the man's a motivator.
What do you think about people who "grunt" loudly while working out? Do you do it?

Do you tell your friends and/or family about your fitness goals?
No
Why or why not?
don't really have anyone in my family or circle who's interested in the topic, other than my sons. they more than make up for everyone else's ambivalence with their enthusiasm and admiration. but i know a big part of it is unconditional love, but that's ok, too. The lack of interest is really why I look to bodyspace --it's a great community with the same mind set and people who will provide the validation and motivation to keep you working hard. it can get a little disheartnening when you you don't even get credit for what you feel are pretty hard earned gains, so a simple "great progress, bro!" goes a long way. our minds and bodies are needy in similar ways. don't really have anyone in my family or circle who's interested in the topic, other than my sons. they more than make up for everyone else's ambivalence with their enthusiasm and admiration. but i kn...more

What tips would you give to others to help them stay motivated over the long-term?
chart your progress. giving yourself credit for the little gains keeps you motivated. plus having a big picture goal helps. don't be shy about dreaming big.
Top 4 Chest Building Exercises. Don’t do things like Bench Pressing to your neck or with your elbows out. Both are potentially dangerous and will injure your shoulders. Use exercises where you can go heavy safely.

High RMR (resting metabolic rate) helps. When I do absolutely nothing I burn 2106 calories a day according to the bod pod. So when I lift and do some cardio I'm burning 3k-3500 calories a day. Mix that in w/ some clean eating and I can get pretty lean easy.
thanks man. great work yourself. I've just been making sure I only take in the calories I need, and keeping my nutrient ratios in check. That and keeping low rest periods during workouts, has really been helping my definition.
Whats up man? Happy new year to ya! First order of business is to work off the 6 lbs of cookies, breads, and beer I took in over the holidays. lol After that going back to the basics w/ a lot of moves. How about you?
i just eat really well, i hit the iron hard too, minimal cardio its winter! maybe in spring ill boost up my cardio, i never run though, either super resistance on the eliptical of just hit the stair master. hows everything going?
My supps and high protin diet is where I have seen the amazing cuts. No drugs and alcohol combined with intensity in the gym. Thats it. Check out my blogs on diet and supps. God Bless!!
Thanks Man, but I have done my share of eating during this holiday season. Really looking forward to cleaning things back up starting TOMORROW !! lol Hope you enjoyed the holidays as well.
12 isn't bad at all, if you clean your diet up just a lil bit and hit the cardio just a lil bit harder you'll be at singles in no time.
Ooooh the big diet killer haha alcohol! I used to drink vodka pretty often with my friends but I've slowed it down to maybe once a month.
I eat 95% clean, with water as my only liquids ( next to a glass or two of milk a day ), and I'd say I do have a pretty fast burning metabolism that helps alot too.
thanks man... tons and tons of supersets, high volume workouts, and circuits! i love doing a lot of weight training while keeping my heart rate elevated.
That's good you probably have pretty good abs from working them so hard, now you just need to cut the BF to make em show!
Have you checked your BF lately?
Thanks bro, main goal at present is to bulk to 176-180 & then compete end of May. Xmas/NY had a great time.
How about you? I'm confident you'll get that 6-pack for the summer man.
Thanks for the compliment :) I see you've been making great progress since the last time i saw your pics, great job man keep it going!
