When I Started:
Feb, 2009
How I Started:
Started working out on Feb 14 right after my 39th birthday. After talking to many bodybuilders they all told me I should lose alot of fat first by cardio before trying to build up alot of muscle. So right now I am MR. CARDIO hopefully I will be Mr. Muscle in the not too distant future
Why I Love It:
Makes me feel young and more of myself not the fat guy I had let myself become after years of overeating and not exercising.
How I Stay Motivated:
By keeping track of everything I eat and monitoring my progress everyday. I work out 5 days a week averaging at least 600 calories burned on either eliptical or treadmill.
BB Accomplishments:
Lost 68 lbs so far since Feb 14.
Can run/jog a mile in 11:03 which I think is amazing since I struggle with gout and ankle problems(not to mention still weigh close to 300 lbs).
Become the athlete I know I am under all this fat.
Goal (Long):
I want to get healthy and have six pack abs in one year. I want to lose as much fat as possible then pack on muscle by taking my intensity for cardio workouts and replace them with weightlifting.
What is your favorite cardiovascular exercise? Why?
Eliptical this is an awesome machine for those of us who have alot of weight to lose. Its really great for people with bad knees. I started out only doing about 10 mins and I can get well over an hour now. I typically do 40-50 mins and burn anywhere from 600-900 calories depending on my intensity. Great workout.
Second is running on the treadmill. Since I am still quite overweight I have to be careful but again this is an excellent calorie burning machine. What is your cardio exercise plan?
First thing in the morning on a empty stomach M-F. I typically warm up stretching for about a minute or two then get on treadmill and walk/run a mile. After I complete the mile I go to the eliptical machine and do another 30-40 mins. I try and burn at least 250 on the treadmill and 500 on the eliptical. I alternate days as well starting with eliptical and then treadmill sometimes too. Sweat pours off me every time so I know I am getting a great workout in.First thing in the morning on a empty stomach M-F. Dave - I don't know if I agree with the advise that you should loose all of your fat first, then start lifting. I think you do both at the same time, muscle increases your metabolism which leads to fat loss. Go read my transformation story, I have my diet and wo's and everything, let me know. clc.
