When I Started:
Sep, 2004
How I Started:
My father was a personal trainer and a triathlete so I had a lot of influence from him. I started the first time in high school for my sophomore PE class and loved it but had no idea what I was doing. I didn't pick it up again until college. I got serious only recently even though I have been going semi-regularly for the past 4 years.
Why I Love It:
I love working out because I get such an endorphin rush after a great workout. You look good, feel great, and keeps you healthy.
How I Stay Motivated:
I stay motivated because I don't want to end up fat, old, and ugly like some people I know.
BB Accomplishments:
None officially, but I am actually trying to win a spot in the Boston Marathon for 2010. Not body building but it helps (and it IS a competition).

What middleweight Is Up To:
Nov 23, 2009
middleweight changed Body Fat from 15.2% to 14.6%, a loss of 0.6 percentage point in 3 days
I want to have a balanced exercise plan and balanced life.
Goal (Long):
I want to meet lifting goals for strength first and then switch to size. Simultaneously I want to improve on my running and qualify to run the Boston Marathon. Lastly, I want to end at 165 lbs. with 8% body fat. That means loosing fat and gaining muscle. Preferably all by 2010, but that might be pushing it.
What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
The weights are either too heavy or their technique is bad.

What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
Deadlifts. Screwing up your back is probably the most disabling thing you can do to yourself. I'd rather break an arm than throw my back out!

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
My first exercise coach in high school probably thought that we were there just because we had to take another PE class in the 10th grade. He was right, but that didn't mean I didn't want to learn anything. He made us do one day for lower body and one day for upper body and left it at that. He told us nothing about size vs. strength, compound vs. isolation, or anything about diet and cardio. My first exercise coach in high school probably thought that we were there just because we had to take another PE class in the 10th grade. This is the HST (hypertrophy specific training) for barbells. Of course you can use any kind or combination of barbells, dumbells, or machines. The theory is that you do most of the work on the first set so you can do a full body workout each day for three days.
