I was 190 pounds after my last child was born and was going through a divorce at the same time. My stomach rolls hurt when I sat down. I was sick of the holiday gluttony around me and started doing an hour of cardio per day. The pounds melted off me as I added a little more to each workout. I saw a flyer up at the gym for a local bikini contest. I entered and did well but quickly realized I was in the wrong venue; I had way more muscle mass than the others. A trainer at the gym said, "You'd be a great figure girl"! Not having a clue what that meant, I looked it up on the internet, talked to a few dudes around the gym and did my first show in March 2007. I had beginners luck and went back July 2007 and qualified for Nationals after dieting for 2 weeks.
Why I Love It:
I had been a rock climber for 10 years and then found yoga; but lifting is SO different! First, I can see the fruits of my physical efforts! Second, it's SO much easier to work it into my busy schedule. Third and most importantly, I LOVE being pound for pound as strong as any dude in the gym. It makes me feel STRONG and ABLE to do ANYTHING!
How I Stay Motivated:
I'm type "A" so motivation is NOT the issue. I just wish I had more money and time to train for reals...
BB Accomplishments:
I went from 190 pounds, size 14 and about 25% bodyfat to 115, size 4 and 8% on showday...
