When I Started:
Aug, 2007
How I Started:
I just joined a gym after two years of not working out. In March 2005 I fell from a balconey and broke my back, hip, arms which left me a paraplegic. Before that I had been a faithful gym goer but my accident changed all that. After 2 years of physical therapy (but not much other activity) I recently weighed myself and saw how much I had lost--40 pounds!!! At that point I realized I was "wasting away" and decided to do something about it. I called the local Gold's Gym, went to check it out, and realized how much weight training I COULD still do. So I am just starting out again. I am going to work my butt off to get back into decent shape.
Why I Love It:
Working out for me has always been fun and a great way to unwind. Also the gym is a great place to meet people and make new friends.
How I Stay Motivated:
I just started back after a long spell of inactivity so I am hoping getting back some of what I lost will keep me motivated.
To regain some of the 40 or so pounds of muscle mass that I have lost since my accident.
Goal (Long):
I want to regain as much muscle mass as possible. Since I rely on my upper body a lot for mobility, etc.,I want to regain as much strength as possible.

I can ambulate with a leg brace on my left leg and a walker, but because it's easier to use a wheel chair than a walker in the gym I am a wheelie when I work out. This means machines are easier to use than free weights for transferring to/from the seat and for adjusting weights.
Rick: Greetings from Chicago. There is a need for me to contact you more privately. This being a public forum, elaboration here is not appropriate. The comment template says you can see my e-mail. I am attempting to follow-up on an alumni inquiry from a mutual acquaintance who also wishes to contact you. Hope to hear from you, soon.
