How I Started:
As an athlete in high school, I enjoyed working out to become better in sports. After school, I continued to workout off and on. Then I started working for a fitness company in 2000. After a few years, it was decided by the company to build its own fitness center for employees and family memebers. I worked out for health and overall fitness until I met a guy who was a bodybuilder and personal trainer. He convinced me to compete in a show that he was promoting and helped me train. After that 1st show, I was hooked and kept competing until I left the company in 2007. Now that I have a new career, I am trying to learn how to balance out a competition workout and eating regimen with my current work schedule.
Why I Love It:
It is a great way to relieve stress, be healthy, and feel good about myself.
How I Stay Motivated:
By reminding myself how much I have grown physically and mentally and knowing that a positive attitude will get you farther than you think.
BB Accomplishments:
I started competing at age 30 and was rewarded two 1st place finishes, a 3rd, and a Fifth over three years.
Will be going on a cruise in several weeks and want to feel good about taking my shirt off. Will focus and fitting in more cardio and eating more vegetables.

As the need arises for a competition, I prefer to use a Bowflex Treadclimber. Having been a sales rep for them, I know they burn a lot of calories in a time-efficient manner. Whether on a home unit or on the commercial version at 24 hour fitness gyms, I have not seen one person who wasn't sweating at any given workout intensity in a matter of a few minutes. I also feel that it works your core well and improves weight distribution in the walking stride over time. As the need arises for a competition, I prefer to use a Bowflex Treadclimber. What is your cardio exercise plan?
Since I am trying to gain weight, I am limiting my cardio to the amount of walking it takes to get to work and back. However, on weekends, I may walk with my wife for a few miles at a leisurely pace.
While cutting up for a show, I will do 30-45 minutes or cardio three times a week. My diet usually takes care of the rest.
