When I Started:
1980
How I Started:
My little brother and I saw a Muscle Builder magazine with Sergio Oliva on it. I saw what a fellow hispanic could do. So we started working out. Our first gym was a home made wooden bench, a piece of rebar and milk crates that we put milk jugs or bricks in for weight. A bit rough on the hands, but good enough until we bought a DP 110lb set from Sears.
After the Navy, I wanted to put on some size, so I joined the local Powerhouse Gym in Lincolnwood, Illinois. Lo and behold, Sergio Oliva was the daytime manager at that time ( don't know if it's still there ). I still have the receipt that he signed. He got me back into lifting heavy again ( I had dislocated my shoulder during a friendly football game in my teens and then again in high school trying a 405 lbs bench, so I was a bit scared to try heavy weights again ) That was GREAT Motivation !!! I hope to have more great motivation through this site and the friendships made during my "journey" to achieve my goals.
Why I Love It:
It has always been a time to "escape" from the problems or stress of the day. It allows one to be "one" with themselves. You are your only competition. No one can challenge you but you. But then again, you are your own biggest critic.
How I Stay Motivated:
I set a goal at every workout. One more rep, one more pound, etc. When I achieve it, it feels like I have the ability to conquer the world !!!

I HAVE to stay focused on getting my workouts in, no matter what the situation is !!!!
Goal (Long):
I want to get into a decent shape for myself, get healthier, and maybe even compete in a local bodybuilding contest by the summer or early next fall. I want to get back into a shape that will closely resemble the me of my 20's. (and I know that it's possible !!!) I will have a six pack !!! I am going to get down to about 200 or so pounds. Most of these are goals that I can achieve by the summer !!! No more power-lifting styled workouts. I am going to try some body weight workouts and concentrate on higher reps. Maybe some "light" dumbbells.
Why I like this video: Because of the old school 70's bodybuilders, plus Jay Cutler is in it. Milos Sarcev and Jay's are shapes I would like to strive for.
Milos Sarcev Hardcore Workout
Played: 58
Why I like this video: Milos Sarcev INTENSE LEG WORKOUT - watch it and you'll see why
Olympia 1984 - Sergio Oliva
Played: 50
Why I like this video: It has Sergio Oliva in it !!!!!!!!!! Why else ???
Well, this is a new All D-Bell workout. It's based on a 3 set 10 rep scheme. Using only Dumbbells. 1-2 exercises per body part. Focus on strict form and mind/muscle connection. Even light D-Bells can feel like a ton.
Ab work is done in Super Set fashion. All 4 execises done per set, one...
I am glad your doing well. I have been doing the p90x. Its fabulous. I use the reistance bands for my pullups ( I cant do real ones yet) I can tell that its definitely making improvements in my back. It never hurts to switch up the workouts. Keeps it exciting and confuses the muscles. I know your doing great so keep it up.
Hey Manny. The transformation contest is already decided. I hear they have another contest going on in the forum for 2008 as well as blsmith and some otheres are having one of their own. Stay strong my friend. 2008 is going to be fabulous.
Thank you to everyone that has sent positive comments. They are very motivational (especially from the ladies !!! ;) LMAO !!!) !!! I do take the time to read your comments every time I log on, so PLEASE, keep them coming. I use them as fuel for the engine that is in my head, that is pushing the fat old klunker of a body that I have....right into the realm of possibilities. I WILL LOSE THIS WEIGHT !!!! and be a bit better looking by summer
