I have always loved bodybuilding, from as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was always running to and fro, climbing, riding, swimming; any activity was good activity as far as I was concerned. My father, also into exercising, was a great inspiration to me, especially after he sustained two strokes and an automobile accident. He proved the doctors wrong. Nowadays, unless you knew his medical history, you would never know he had been paralized even for a moment.
Why I Love It:
I love how bodybuilding allows one to reshape the body, but what I love more is the higher level of functionality that comes along with good health and toned muscles. The strength and power in the body's movements when it is in peak form is a rush! A strong spine, legs, arms, trunk, etc...all these components contribute to a decreased risk of injury and may lead to longer functionality. This is something I truly want for myself.
As an added bonus, I love knowing that my husband has something nice to come home to after the day is done.
How I Stay Motivated:
I keep a journal of my progress and measurements and surf bodybuilding.com's site. I also read Muscle and Fitness and Hers. I used to avoid Hers, but it has improved since its inception and now shows bodies that I can understand. I could never be thin, but I can definitely be built:)
In addition to all this, my husband's constant love and support of everything I do is an added source of motivation. And lets not forget my sons, who love to mess around, doing leg lifts, running around in circles, etc. while I work out. My little men and hubby keep me going when I am down on my progress.
BB Accomplishments:
In 1997, I achieved a 4-mi run in 37 minutes, my personal best (I am currently trying to get my run back up, but am slower in my old age...lol).
In 1998, I was doing 75 push-ups. My goal now will be to slowly work my way back to that personal best.
Recovering from an illness, in 2006 I weighed 155 lb and was very depressed over how slowly the weight was coming off, but was grateful to be on the mend.
View of the right side. I can see differences in how I am losing fat on each side. They are not perfectly symmetric.
I want to see a 2% drop in my body fat percentage by June '09. I want to be able to flex my muscles and see the movement more easily, to see the decrease in body fat when I move. I want to feel the increased strength and cardiovascular conditioning when I bike and run and lift.
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 7 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
20%

Well, that same evening when I got home I removed my shoes, got happy and jumped in my living room, catching the edge of my outer foot on the carpet, everting it and breaking the fifth metatarsal right below the pinkie toe. I did not think it was broken until the next day when placing weight on...
LOL.....when I was in the Navy I had to go to a 6 mth school in ATHENS, GA. Yikes....home of UGA. That was tough. I removed my Gator license plate I had at the time.
hello M thanks for the add as a friend and all the very best with all your fitness goals in 2009. Have a great weekend and God Bless & Takecare Ciao Bella Beautiful M
Cool, i think it will be worth it! I love science so that should help. I took computer classes in college, but need a change. Nursing jobs aren't going overseas so that is another plus. Always in demand.
Thank you and you are right :) I'm excited to get started. Just need to go back and get retested on some stuff before i can enroll. How is your week coming along so far?
Awesome progress pics. I just noticed that you are a RN. I am looking to get into nursing as well. I want to go back to college in the Summer quarter. I just need to finish up applying for financial aid.
Cool! Sounds great! I love that feeling. My body is responding well to my new workout. I just need to shed some of this winter coat...lol. Yeah, lets stay motivated for sure!
Hi - Foolishly i took a 2 year rugby league contract - 9 years after retiring from rugby union and at age 52.Age didn't stop the opposing team 3rd match in from nailing me as a chief play maker - clothes lined - got the try but didn't get up. Doc originally specified april as weight work return , now he cautiously says june! Frustration ain't in it , but i still need a stick to walk so i guess he might have a point. Sorry to hear you are a little sore - hope it gets better soon - Jack
Hi - I got a nailing in rugby that totally dislodged my C6 - so currently i am on a stick - doctor has authorised light cardio beginning monday but weights - out till end of april he thinks earliest. How are things with you ?
I just dropped by to see how you are doing. The way may seem long but taken a little at a time it is not unsurmountable. Hope you have an absolutely wonderful Independence Day!
I just thought that I would drop you a line to tell you that my wife, and your friend (bodyspace: judimax) is having a birthday on Saturday April 5th and is turning 48. I think she looks fantastic for not only 48 but for any age, but then again I am biased. If you get a chance she would be surprised (and love it) if you would drop by and wish her a Happy Birthday.
