Overall Goal: Now that I can do a pull-up by myself, I want to be able to do at least one dip too. I want to be able to do at least 10 reps of each by the end of the year.

When I Started:
Aug, 2007
How I Started:
I've always been active in dancing, but I never seriously thought about lifting weights until I saw my first fitness competition. I was awestruck by just how absolutely incredible those girls looked, it was an eye-opening experience for me. It inspired me to start some weightlifting of my own.
Why I Love It:
I love the results I've gotten so far, my body has tightened up so much and I have never looked or felt so good in my life. I have also enjoyed developing strength, I never really thought much about it before but I realized that I am lifting almost twice what I could when I first started, that is an amazing feeling! It's been incredibly useful, I don't know how I ever got by without it.
How I Stay Motivated:
I apply the same dedication I do for dancing to working out and I always try to keep learning and growing. I workout with my best friend, we share the same goals, we motivate and challenge each other to keep pushing harder.
BB Accomplishments:
Being able to lift the big bar and doing unassisted pull-ups all by myself!

It takes an athlete to dance, an artist to be a dancer.
Now that I can do a pull-up by myself, I want to be able to do at least one dip too. I want to be able to do at least 10 reps of each by the end of the year.
Goal (Long):
I want to develop a beautiful body that will look good in anything, anywhere. I definitely want to get stronger and add some muscle. However, I'm a dancer so I need to be careful about not adding too much size. I want to focus on developing long lean strong muscles on a body that is sexy and shapely, yet buff. I've always had a hard time putting on any kind of weight, so adding muscle will be a big time challenge for me. My short term goal is to develop enough strength to do pull-ups and dips on my own and also be able to do 25 "real" push-ups without stopping. I eventually want to transform my body into a lean mean fitness machine and compete in a fitness or figure competition.
Izzie inspires me because she is proof of what I can accomplish if I can stay dedicated and focused on my workouts/diet. And because she's really nice too!
I find Crystal inspirational for a lot of reasons but mostly it's how she shows me everyday what you can achieve if you are willing to work hard and dedicate yourself to a lifetime of fitness. And also because of all those gosh darn pull-ups!
What type of person at your gym annoys you the most? Why?
People who don't re-rack their weights after they're done, hello it's not like I enjoy having to unload all those 45's by myself

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Don't think about going to the gym, just go!

What mistakes did you make when you first started working out?
I started off lifting way too light and it never got me anywhere. I didn't lift with proper form and I didn't spend enough time working on the areas where I was weakest. .
I was talking about being able to do pullups with some of my friends at dance practice today. Well, you know how people are, tell them you can do something new and the next thing you know, they want you to show them, like you're a trained monkey at a zoo. But I was still riding the high...
I workout as often as I can, usually 4 days a week during the school year and 5-6 days during the summer. I prefer to workout first thing in the morning, usually around 6am, doing some combination of lifting weights and stretching. I combine both free weights and machines in my workout and I...
