When I Started:
1992
How I Started:
My mom had the Jane Fonda workout and a step which started me up, she still works out in her 60's so I guess its in the blood. I've always been active in gymnastics, softball, basketball, cycling. Dabbling with weights, getting serious in 1992-94 watching Cory Everson. Then seeing what happens when you "LET IT ALL GO" as as I did w/each pregnency 215 w/ 1st, taking 6 months to get back into great shape then again up to 235lbs w/my 2nd. Quitting smoking, drinking, and cafiene going to food for comfort and developing medical problems in the process from the rapid weight gain and depression set in. I knew what I had to do. Getting back into shape, cleaning up my diet and losing 100lbs in 1 year, putting over 1,000 miles on the stroller and thank goodness for the extra calories needed for nursing. Knowing I did it before I can do it again!
After opening a business, my job became my non stop work out and fasting all day w/a diet consisting of 10PM beer and cheesecake samples(I dont recommend it)keeping me thin but very unhealthy eventually leading to stress related I.B.S. I knew I had to make the time to work out and eat right. Working out and eating right has "saved me" too many times keeping depression at bay, no prescription or Dr. needed. Getting into the best shape Ive ever been in....till a divorce, moving and resigning within 3 months hit me gaining 20lbs of fat covering my muscle(my butt is solid chocolate!) From great shape to feeling horrible, depressed, tired and always sick. Knowing what I have to do. Making the time for what is important to me, my health... setting a good example for my kids.
Why I Love It:
I truely love it. Its a healthy addiction...my drug/obsession of choice... its a lifestyle, not quick fix.
The physical, mental, spiritual(doing vinyasa yoga) benifits. It has helped me through so many rough times in my life, just so worth it....I love the endorphin release, euphoric feeling, working up a sweat, love the burn and the control I have over my body, doing stretching/yoga feeling the muscle, stress release, the results, when I eat clean.
Being truly mentally and physically healthy and strong, naturally... no medication/prescription or Doctor needed.
Seeing the body transform.
How I Stay Motivated:
MY KIDS... wanting to be healthy and active with them and well into my 80's. Seeing results, mine and others. Sharing the same passion and experiences with others....
My boys brutal honesty with me. Being my sons personal trainer, nutritionst. Seeing both my boys working out with me is a great feeling......teaching my boys and others about a healthy lifestyle, how to read lables, eating healthy/clean.
Having seen myself and others suffer with health problems that could have been prevented with a healthy diet, exercise. It is a lifestyle and POSITIVE thinking.....
Inner stregnth that lies within all of us

I heard dressing the same color head to toe was slimming, I was hoping to blend in with the grass;) 10 months pregnant @235lbs...My husband made sure I ate enough. Walking to the kitchen/bathroom was the extent of my exercise. I was making sure I had plenty of cushioning in case I fell.
I see the light, literally... dirty mirrors and no progress, my fault. This is hard training, clean diet with added chocolate n peanut butter. There are no excuses
To remain happy and healthy. Truly balanced; physically, mentally emotionally and spiritually. Taking care and appreciating what I DO have. My body, my health. Reaching my ideal weight.
Goal (Long):
To shed the 30-40 plus lbs. of fat I have packed on in the past 2 years. To get into the best shape that I possible can, mentally and physically. To be happier, healthier and stronger than ever. To be able to sprint with my 14yr old son and actually beat him!
I started watching Monica with Kiana Tom on ESPN in 1997 and she started appearing in/on Oxygen mag. and aspired to push the weights heavier and harder....showing me that muscles are sexy;)
So you have been doing Yoga for a while now. How do you like it. I know it can build stamina and even muscle. Any body part that has responded well. I know I need to do something like Yoga or Tai Chi, but you know hard core lifters. We tend to resist that calling.
Dina, I luv that you are showing the world that are best is not when are 20 something! More importantly you see being fit as the ultimately lifetime goal. You will not only enjoy life for a long time to come, but your example will have your children on the path to success to. Keep on rock'n it! Troy
