I was a swimmer and dancer in highschool, but fell out of a workout routine in college - who didnt? I started my Ph.D. at the University of Tennessee, a good 500 miles away from home, so I needed something to do. I would hike and do tae-bo whenever I had time, but I initially got motivated to really get back in shape by a then current boyfriend - About one month into the program I had to stop as a result of an accident that left me with 30 stitches in my face and some major life hurdles to get over. Now, Im back into tae-bo, climbing, white water rafting and lifting 4 days a week at whichever Y I am closest to.
Why I Love It:
I could bore you with all the physiology of why its addicting - or I could be honest and just say that its time where I get to focus on me, and no one else. The occasional "Im doing this to make him/her sorry or jealous ... etc etc" creeps into my head and when it does - I make myself do another set. The feeling you get after a good hard workout is pretty much like no other.
How I Stay Motivated:
Motivation comes in all forms - mostly in adversity.
BB Accomplishments:
getting started and sticking to it...lol.
actually - a big one for me was finding out that Im at 13% body fat and still able to lift like I used to a few years back. Looking forward to new goals.

I come from a family of very strong women that dont particularly value the waifish or helpless stereotype of being a woman. Ive always been thin - but I was looking for more definition allover
to break down walls and barriers, live in the now, and push myself to the furthest I can at that moment.
Goal (Long):
I just started working with a personal trainer when I had to move to Sarasota, FL - 700 miles away from him and my gym- for the summer. I got a membership at the local Y and am still lifting 4 days a week with workouts he sends me. I think my goals for this summer are definitely to tone up. My arms are pretty cut already, Id like to see more definition in my legs and abs.
Im also looking to increase balance and core strength along with overall endurance and strength. My goals - pretty general. Ill know I've hit them when my trainer quits giving me shit...
Id throw up some numbers on what I want to be lifting by a certain time - but honestly, im not sure yet. Ill get those goals in line when I get back to knoxville and can sit down with john.
I would also like to compete - but I ams SUCH a long way off from that. And I think I like cookies a bit too much to ever get my core that lean.
well, successfully passed my comprehensive exams, got my undergraduate student graduated and got my other one a scholarship and a placement at duke this summer. Most would think this means Im on chill mode for the summer - alas, not so much. As most people enjoy a break from school/work in...
Yeah, been forever! I was starting to think you got carried off by a dolphin. Things mediocre in the gym here...conference season so lots of travel. Going to Albuquerque Wednesday & kind of dreading it. Keep me posted! a
Great improvments!! Your arm are soidl msucle. Way to go!! I've come back also from a bad accident. Good job on that!! Check out my scars on my right arm in my photos.
You should have started your last blog with "With all due respect" - because that means you can say whatever you want.... it's in the United Nations! ha, hope all is well...
With the contest being over and everything else that is going on...I am just striving to loosing about 15 more lbs and add as much mass as possible. I just love being healthy and yes the contest is over, but I have the mentality as if now is just a new beginning.
You have done a great job of becoming what you envisioned. Keep pushing yourself to be the best that you can be and try and help someone along the way.
