How I Started:
I was an overweight kid since a very young age, I piled on the weight after my parents divorce and what can i say i love food so ate lots of comfort food, i let myself go for may years and had no self respect. One summer holiday when I came down with a stomach bug and stopped eating for a few days, this was my catalyst to the rest of my life!
I knew I needed to lose weight, I knew that I wanted to be the best and most of all I knew I could do it!! After i recovered from my sickess I went on a strict diet and started gradually building up my fitness running in the countryside and also cycling. At school my Science teacher invited me to the weight lifting club where i learnt the very basics, only a few bicep curls and press ups and I was done haha but hey it was a start (and certainly thought of myself as a bit of an arney!)
On leaving school I joined and local leisure centre where I would be waiting at the door 6am to go swimming then gym after work, I had a program of mixed cardio and weights, my knowledge of weight training and its benefits were still very limited.
in 2004 I moved to NZ where I joined the world famous group fitness giant Les Mills, I then started training with my personal trainer who changed my life and ignited my passion for fitness, to this day I owe him lots and has become a great friend and amazing motivator (cheers Nate!)
He worked me hard in the weights and in my spare time I would run on the treadmill. One day he introduced me to a circuit/ aerobics class, from that day I was hooked to group fitness! the energy, the music and most of all the results!
within a year I toned up and fighting fit, I dropped my body fat down to almost 10%! My passion then for fitness took me into a career of Personal Training and group fitness.
I now teach and train in the Les Mills group fitness programs especially BODYATTACK! love it.
Im now richer in knowledge in my strength training and in last couple years have tested with what works with my body type, so now is the year to put it into production!
Im at a great place at the moment but hey.....the only way is up!
Why I Love It:
love the pre build up, walking in the gym and rolling my sleeves up and knowing the next hour is sweat and tears, pushing the limit when my body says no and my mind says yes, the buzz of pushing the boudaries and the pain of moving out the comfort zone, the feeling when your work out mate shouts one more! and you push with every ounce of energy, keeping you chin up and never quiting, becoming closer and closer to my results and still moving the goal posts, the feeling of today i busted my ass off and im proud....................love it!
