Overall Goal: I want to gain muscle, but I also would like to lose about 4%-5% body fat. Not sure if I can really do both at once, since I need fat to gain muscle - so at the moment I am just trying to gain muscle by eating lots of protein and lifting heavy.

I started trying to lose weight my senior year of highschool. I weighed approximately 160 pounds. I ended up losing too much weight (WAY long story short!) to less than 100 pounds and went down a long difficult road of an eating disorder. I am now healthier every day, and have been on this road to health for several years since my "rock bottom." It is only through Jesus that I not only survived but have learned and continue to learn about the roots of this very deep issue (which FYI is NOT about food but for me, a fear of failure). This process of healing has made me who I am today, and as painful as it was (and still is many times) I would not trade the experience for anything because I've gained so much and grown so much closer to my Savior.
In June of 2008, I was inspired by an Oxygen cover model to begin building muscle and looking at working out as a way to discipline my body and let it know I'M IN CHARGE! I began working out 5 days a week instead of my 2-3 days a week that I was doing to just maintain my small frame, and incorporated heavier lifting and spread out my workouts so I am doing 1-2 body parts a day for longer amounts of time, instead of doing a light weight, high rep circuit training type workout I did for several years. I started to see working out differently - it was no longer to be "smaller" it was now about being healthy and strong. I began to see beauty differently, and that maybe I could be "me" and still be beautiful. I didn't have to try to be anyone else. :)
Why I Love It:
To feel strong and make my body submit to my authority.
How I Stay Motivated:
I read Oxygen and come on BodyBuilding.com A LOT for inspiration and ideas to add variety to my workouts. And I pray!!! That is essential.
BB Accomplishments:
HHMMMM....the fact that I haven't quit yet! Usually I talk myself out of whatever goals I come up with because I am so afraid of failure. But as I've grown through a lot of that, I am working on trying to gain muscle (although this is not coming along as quickly as I thought it would) and I haven't quit yet! I'd like to compete...but so far I haven't seen the kind of results that make me feel like I could do something like that....we'll see.

stevep78 gave me a program to follow with giant sets, a HIIT cardio plan and a diet. So far so good! I'm trying to do it at least 5x/wk if not 6, with cardio and abs 5d/w too. I am really trying to lean up and cardio is really kickin my butt! I haven't sprinted since high school!! lol
