When I Started:
Jan, 2009
How I Started:
I've always been athletic, taking part in many sports throughout high school. In my freshman and sophmore years at college, I gained the freshman 15 plus the sophmore 10 and my self-esteem plummeted. I was always a cardio queen and thought weights would make me look manly. Finally, in January of 2009, my brother convinced me to adopt a REAL workout... a plan that I would stick to for 4-6wks, consisting of cardio and weights. I immediately fell in love! June 2009, I decided to get my eating habits on board with my workouts, so I hired a nutritionist. We set a goal to compete in November 2009, and for the first time in my life, I stuck with it all and persevered. I love this lifestyle and wouldn't change it for the world! :)
Why I Love It:
I love testing my limits, challenging myself, and reaching my goals, only to set new, more advanced goals. This lifestyle is addictive and the results are fascinating and motivating! I love the social component of this bb world as well... I have met the most amazing people who continue to inspire and amaze me daily. There is truly no other lifestyle I'd rather live.
How I Stay Motivated:
I surround myself with positive role models and keep inspiring books, magazine and photos close by at all times to remind myself where I am headed and what I am ultimately striving for. I also enjoy helping others achieve their fitness and nutrition goals. Knowing that they look to me for motivation and advice keeps me on track. I also couldn't do this all without my friends and family who continually support me through my training and somehow put up with the mood swings, low-carb IQ brain, and social sacrifices I have to make to reach my fitness goals.
BB Accomplishments:
Lost 25lbs and 11% BF over 6months. Competed in my first figure show, Nov 2009, placing 6th in med-tall class.

This is so embarrassing. I said I would NEVER post this, but I have to being that I've come such a long way. I am about 160lbs and 26%BF in this pic. Can you say PORKER!? omg... my face looks swollen, my legs are like tree trunks and my arms have absolutely NO SHAPE. I actually felt good this night ...
Keep pushing myself to the limit in training, while continuing to follow a clean eating lifestyle to maintain my fat loss, bring out my upper body and tone down the lower body during my offseason. DO WORK CREW.
Goal (Long):
I will be using Dec and Jan 2009 to build up my delts, improve my v-taper, and lean out my legs. I plan to go heavy and hard with my upper body and switch to bodyweight only lower body exercises. The judges want to see a more balanced look between my upper and lower body. Personally, I would like to lean out my midsection a little more. I am hoping this will follow along with my lower body lean-out. I plan to compete again in April 2010. I will follow another 12-week contest prep period to bring my bodyfat down to 10%. Keeping my lean mass at 115, I hope to walk on stage at 126lbs. If all goes well, I hope to place top 3 and move on to Level 2 for November 2010. Here we go! :)
Weight Goal:
I want to LOSE 10 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
10%
Upcoming Contest:
Stratford, Ontario 22nd Annual Festival City Championships- Level 1 (April 2010)

I now all about the after comp lifestyle very well. After 55 competitions I have really learned how to cope with most of sanity intact now. In fact I wrote a blog about it right after one of my friends was struggling with some serious post comp blues. If you need anything or advice just let me know!
Actually I am deployed to the Desert, so not much of a Thanksgiving here either. In Germany there isn't much going on for Thanksgiving, but the Christmas season more than makes up for it!
Congratulations Laura on not just doing first show but excelling and looking fabulous! You look amazing. There is no doubt you put in some serious work and dedication, and the results show. Look forward to seeing how far you go!
