When I Started:
Jul, 2007
How I Started:
My daughter has a kidney disease which caused her to be on prednisone for 10 years. As a result of the medication, she has weight problems. I tried working out with her but she was resenting me for making her do something she didn't want to do. So I did some research to find a good trainer in our area. She & I went to interview a trainer and got her signed up. She committed to it and made herself responsible for showing up. After I saw her results, I decided it was time for me to do the same.
Why I Love It:
I have dropped 3 sizes in 5 months and feel great. I have always worked out but when I got married 10 years ago,my husband didn't have any interest in it. So little by little I quit going to the gym. And little by little I started gaining weight, didn't sleep well and felt tired all of the time. I finally got him interested and he is so proud of me & himself. He is hooked.
How I Stay Motivated:
It has become a life style for us. My daughter, myself & my husband. I have motivated some friends and co-workers to begin exercise and eating right. I stay motivated from the comments I receive from friends, family, co-workers, etc. and the fact that I can put on anything & feel good. I'm still working towards my ultimate goal.
BB Accomplishments:
Being able to do pull ups and push ups and 40lb rows!
In the past I was always a active member of a gym and would go 3-4 times a week. I never had weight problems until I hit 35, boy what a surprise how your body has a mind of its own! I had kids but still went to the gym regularly. Then remarried & got involved with my kids activities. I was a girl scout leader, a school coordinator, homeroom mom, was a Pom officer, on the PTA board, softball mom, etc. Way to much for a full time working mother to handle and take care of herself. Plus I started a new job with much more responsiblity than what I had previously. I finally decided I had volunteered enough & quit everything, all at the same time. Boy did I feel relieved! I got back in the gym for a while then I got busy with kids, work, yard, etc. Gained more weight and got more depressed with the way I looked. I was tired all of the time and cranky on top of that. I saw my daughter improve herself through exercise and thought if she was able to commit herself & do it, I could to! I needed to be a good example for her & the rest of my family. So I committed to exercise in July 07, had a little set back in Jan 08 & then another set back in Aug/Sept 08. I got serious again in Jan 09 and hit the gym 6 days a week with some days going twice a day. One for cardio the other for resitance training.

Are you a parent?
Yes
How has bodybuilding and fitness helped you to be a better parent?
It has given me more energy to keep up the 7 kids I am raising! 6 are still at home with the 7th still needing my advise & help from time to time. I used to come home so tired at night I didn't want to do anything. I love to cook (and my kids love it too) and now I have the energy & drive to do it. I feel more organized now and I'm in a better mood.It has given me more energy to keep up the 7 kids I am raising! 6 are still at home with the 7th still needing my advise & help from time to time.
