I started lifting when I was 14 as a freshman in high school. I dropped Physics in order to take Weight Training!
As a child I was involved in horseback riding, dance, and gymnastics. In college I continued lifting while pursuing my degree in exercise physiology. After graduating and while working on my Masters degree in counseling the intensity of my training increased, and I lost a lot of weight, getting leaner and healthier. A woman approached me in the gym I was working out at in Fort Collins, CO and asked if I'd ever considered trying bodybuilding or figure competition. This was in 2005. I had no idea what competition was about. I did a fair amount of research and attended a figure camp, and the rest is history.
Why I Love It:
There's nothing like the feeling of beating your previous lift's weight. Bodybuilding is not only a physical game, but it's as much if not more a mental game. It requires a fortitude and tenacity of spirit and will, especially when dieting that is inspiring! To see the changes that your body can make and to watch yourself grow is an incredibly gratifying experience!
How I Stay Motivated:
I set short term and long terms goals. I keep them at the forefront of my mind at all times. I have a couple mantras that I use to stay centered and focused. One is "Pain is weakness leaving the body." The other is "B.A" I can't tell you what it stands for, but it relates to my long term goal and makes me think about what my competitors are doing ALL THE TIME!
BB Accomplishments:
Turning Pro in May 2008 before I turned 30. And earning both my figure pro card AND my bodybuilding pro card!
Then earning a pro title in my pro debut at the Mid-America Pro-Am in August 2008.
4th place at 2008 Figure Internationals.
