When I Started:
Mar, 2004
How I Started:
I had been putting off the desire to start Gym for quite some time, then I turned 50yrs and I thought I better get going before I turn 55 & 60 yrs and missed the boat. So I showed up, paid up, and got on with it. I am a bit obsessive when I get started on something, I have got to prove to myself I can do it.
Why I Love It:
The thing I love most about working out is the feeling of strength, achievement, and being a man. A man that is proud and empowered by inner as well as outer strength. It is a strange but exciting result of feeling stronger, is that you feel better about yourself, your achievements. It is hard to sustain strength in the corporate world as the aging process sets in. It is true that the youth looks at you differently as your hair greys and the memory is less trustworthy, they see you as used up, "old School" old news. But when these younger, next in line, see that you have a few more muscles than they do, there is respect and acceptance in their eyes instead of neglect and indifference. Just the other day my youngest son said to me, "gee dad you are a TANK", meaning I am "buffed" as they say. He is 16 yrs and has just started to train with me, and he is a good Gym buddy, I have been looking for one for some time now.
How I Stay Motivated:
I look in ther mirror each day and say "keep going Col. you WILL get there". Also I look at other Men and Women my age and I say OMG! I never want to look like that.

Goal (Long):
As I get older I realize that the majority of limitations are put there by ourselves by our own thinking. When I turned 50yrs old (five years ago) I set a broad but challenging goal of being the fitest and strongest I have ever been in my life. That was quite a challenge considering my knees ached, I was slow in getting out of bed with my joints not wanting to work as they needed to, and when I looked in the mirror I saw I had a "Furniture build", my Chest had fallen into my Drawers. I knew it was time to turn things around. So after 5 years of hitting the Gym on a regular basis of 3-5 times per week I am close to achieving my goal, I just need that extra push to pay the price of getting my body cut and in proportion. I want a body that people say, "Hey nice body, pity about the face" I don't care too much about the aging process of the face so long as the body is fit and toned so I can feel strong in my body as I feel within myself.
So I need to get serious, take some measurements and control the diet and perform the routines that will deliver that cut body that I know I can have and enjoy. Surrender is not an option as growing fat, as well as old, is not an option.
I want to see if I can get a six pack, it can be up or down, even sideways, I just want to get a set so i can say "see it can be done", no limits!!
You look pretty good yourself!! The picture was taken 2 years ago for a photo shoot I did. Thank you so much for your kind compliments. I used to go to the gym however we have our own company and so we got too busy and since the gym is 30 mins one way..I now workout at home only. Good luck with your fitness endevours..I'm sure your son will keep you motivated to do your best.
