In my first year of college, I went to the Recreational Sports Facility at UC Berkeley off and on throughout the year. I weighed about 173 pounds. My third year, in 1997, I started working at the RSF on campus and kept the job for a year and 9 months. Unfortunately, working there so often made me not want to be there when I wasn't getting paid. I forgot about the fitness payoff. Since then, I've had monthlong memberships to various gyms off and on when I've felt flabby and ashamed. I've always been fairly active and never punished my body hard, but since age 25, my metabolism has slowed significantly and when I settled in Boise, I signed up at the "Y" and have been going about 4 times/week since getting my membership in late May. Muscle memory has been kind to me. In one week, I can already feel the old "pump" coming back.
Why I Love It:
I like the look I get for about an hour after I work out. I wish it would stay around a bit longer. I also dig when people actively notice changes in my fitness level. It's great to know that I could take a hike to the top of Half Dome (Yosemite National Park) and not have to wonder if I'll make it all the way. Lastly, it's a great motivator to avoid smoking, drinking, and doing other unhealthful activities.
How I Stay Motivated:
The best way for me to stay motivated is to be sure not to allow distractions to take me away from the gym for more than a day. As long as it becomes routine for me, I'll keep it up. It's also good to surround myself with others who care and are encouraging.
BB Accomplishments:
So far, not a whole lot. I guess I'm happy that when I go to my other country France (I'm a dual citizen), they notice that I'm fit, big, and strong, rather than a slothenly enormous "Americain typique".

I've got a 6 day workout routine each week. I loathe cardio, so I limit that to one day. I do that outdoors, by jogging, hiking, or swimming for about an hour.
For legs, I also spend one day specifically on them in the gym. I do calf raises, 10 reps/3 sets, @80 lbs(+bar), sitting...
