Background

When I Started: Feb 2007
HOW I STARTED:

After several years of inactivity I decided to join the YMCA and start and exercise program. The thing that motivated me was a book I found. It was a paperback titled, "Muscle Building for beginners". I still refer to it. By August of 2008 I changed gyms. And I am so glad because my new gym is much better equipped. The best thing is they had squat racks! I nearly kissed the ground. I love it.

WHY I LOVE IT:

I love working out because it brings me closer to my body. I feel healthier, sleep better and look better. But I love the enhanced sense of physicality. I also like having the power to change my body. As I continue to work out I realize my own power and how to use it and I am more focused in all aspects of my life.

2008

Posted in Training  :  Dec 28, 2010 5:12pm
My last post was one year ago.  In that time my legs grew 1.5 inches and my shoulders inches.  Over the past year I've learned much about myself and my potential.  For example, I've learned which exercises are best for me.  That doesn't mean I won't learn new exercises, it is just that I have developed a routine. I've also become aware of various body parts.  The first year of bodybuilding I focussed on my legs, this year [2008] I included my back.  In 2009 I am going to add my chest and shoulders.  I like to think that my knowledge is growing naturally. ...

Working out

Posted in Training  :  Dec 28, 2010 5:12pm
I just want to put a New Years post. I am grateful that I am still motivated to workout.  I am at the intermediate stage where I am not sure where I am heading, but I know I'll get there.  Recently I can feel more muscle being worked. I am using a modified 5x5 program. Also I am working on my diet. I am trying to balance the carbs/protein/fat ratios and get a gram of protein per pound of lean muscle I want? have?  That has been difficult, because I work a 9-5 job and my partner isn't into bodybuilding.  Though I am trying. Here's to a great 2008.  Lose fat and Gain mus...

Squats

Posted in Training  :  Dec 28, 2010 5:12pm
Let me start off with how I feel about squats - "I eFing LOVE doing SQUATS!"  That being said, I am not sure I can say that I have properly done a squat until today.  When I started my weightlifting program in February, I decided to concentrate on free weight compound move exercises.  When it came to the squats all my gym had was a smith machine. No squat rack.  So that's what I've been doing and to be honest I made some gains, I am up to 220 LBs. Recently I've read at Stronglifts.com that doing squats on the smith machine are useless.  The article went on to...
