I lived in Argentina from 1990 to 1992. I came back from there and I was reasonably fit and light (about 175). I immediately put on 20 lbs from the change in diet. When I hit 200 lbs, I started working out at the local Gold's gym in Houston. Mostly I worked out to lose weight (lots of stairmaster). Over time, I started to work the weights harder and get bigger.
Why I Love It:
I like being the strongest guy in the room. and I'm not all THAT big.
How I Stay Motivated:
I see progress. I track the changes in my weight, bodyfat, and abilities. I made up a Good Animal index that includes bodyfat, VO2 max, and strength index from gymamerica.com. Watching my progress in that measure is sweet. also, my wife is giving me quite favorable reviews, which is always a good thing.
BB Accomplishments:
The subcutaneous snow is melting. Spring has arrived and the ab hills are peeking out.

This morning I ran a 5k run around Lake Merritt in Oakland. It was the annual Aztec Run (http://www.aztecrun.org).
It''s not very bodybuiding of me, but it was nice to do that. I haven't been timed running since I was 17 years old. My wind was good, but my hip flexors were really tired by...
If you really want to lose weight and get into great shape I believe it is best to follow a proven program otherwise you may end up wasting your time & energy. I lost over 50 lb’s and went from 36 to 10% bodyfat and my wife (bodyspace: judimax) went from a size 12/14 to a 4/6 in only 12 weeks by following the Body for Life program. Push yourself, possibly out of your comfort zone and you may be amazed at the results and how fast they happen. It will be well worth the effort.
Thanks... I think too many people lose sight on the entire picture, and forget that all the pieces make the whole... Good luck with all that you want to achieve...
Tony,
Thanks for the comment. I am trying real hard to get back into shape. Man it's a lot harder now than it was when I was 20. I hate having to deal with co-workers and their comments about the way I eat and what time I go to bed. Now matter how many times I try and explain, it's the same ole thing. "Why are you torturing yourself?"
Like eating good and exercising is torture. I mean I know I am always sore but it's a great feeling.
Anyway good luck with all of your goals.
