When I Started:
Jun, 1998
How I Started:
I was very involved in athletics growing up and enjoyed physical activities and exertion. This led to career and business choices that were physically demanding. My nature is to push myself and this gave me the satisfaction of staying in good condition. Then due to economic changes (and a back injury) I had to change careers and found myself in a much less active position. I think my defining moment for change came while travelling on a business trip. I was in the bathroom after my shower, (and this particular hotel had those mirrors on opposite walls that show the front and the back of you) when I saw "it"! There on my backside, I saw what looked like "cottage cheese". Now I may be exaggerating a bit here, but it looked to me, like there was more cottage cheese on my butt than there was at the buffet table of a weight watchers convention. Then and there I decided that something had to be done, so I joined a gym. I knew nothing about working out much less bodybuilding, so for the first three months I did a great job of "faking it" by doing my own full body routines that yeilded small gains and much pain. About that time a trainer who worked at the gym saw my plight and took pity on me...
Why I Love It:
I love the burn of an intense workout or strenuous physical exertion and the overall sense of wellbeing that comes with it..
Maybe it's just me, but it seems that the air smells fresher because I can breathe it deeply; food tastes better because I'm not eating junk and preservatives, and my mind is clearer and sharper. My life and relationships are more rewarding because I can participate in more things and have more energy to enjoy new and exciting endeavors.
How I Stay Motivated:
TBA
BB Accomplishments:
At the ripe old age of 42, I competed in the 2001 Natural Eastern Classic, taking 3rd place in the "Masters" class and 4th place in the "Novice Light Heavyweight" class.

Goal (Long):
My goal as mentioned above is to regain the self discipline (and healthy lifestyle)I had prior to my accident. The way I plan to accomplish this is by transforming my body and taking to a competition level, so I can compete one more time.
I need to shoot high because I know myself and if my goal is to just stay in shape, I'll get soft and look in the mirror and say, "Hey you look pretty good for 50" and that will be the beginning of the end. It took me almost 5 years to get the strength and energy back to just be able to even attempt this and I'm not about to slow down now.
I would love to weigh in at sub 198, but if I can bulk up and still cut, I'm ok with going in heavier. I've always been on the lean side so for me to be able to hit over 200lbs of solid muscle..Baby Rock ON!
I am inspired by his vision, his courage to take action, his transparency and humility, but most of all by his strength of heart ! and I haven't even met the dude yet. Read his profile, it's definitely worth it ! ! ! ! !
"A journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step"
I don't know who said that but it is so true and works the same way in the gym. I'm new to this blogging stuff so please bear with my awkwardness. This is like another aspect of a new "journey" for me so...
How are things? Summer's over and time for winter sweaters. LOL

Ken, me and the word 'buff' have never been used complimentary in the same sentence. ;-) I'm hoping for 'not bad' Heck, I want to look as good as you do right now.
Hi Ken! Cooling it with the walking these days. I'm tired of only doing that and miss lifting *some* weights (scary, huh) so I'm hitting the iron more and walking less.
Hey, I am doing well, thanks!! Even though you'd want to see bad-a** calves sticking out from under my kilt, I'd prefer to show them off as you do, in a poser and all oiled up! You rock!!
with the progress you're making I'm expecting you to eclipse that avatar photo by May first! As for my diet .. I'd be doing a lot better if I could get one of my friends to break the jaw. ;) LOL Past week hasn't been bad, though. Nice progress updates from last week.
Hey Ken .... the discipline is getting tested by work ... and lack of sleep. So right now I'm working on keeping the diet under check in case I can't burn off as many calories as I would like to.
