When I Started:
May, 2008
How I Started:
Well, it is rather a long story but a miracle to me. In Feb of 2008 I had a moderately severe stroke, that was caused by neglecting myself. I know that at forty it is fairly young, but I should mention that I have been fighting eating disorders since I was fifteen. At one point in my life (I was twenty-seven)I reached eighty-five lbs. Not very wise at five seven!! You name it I tried it to stay skinny. Every thing from starving, binging, excessive exercises (hours a day without eating) drinking to dull the hunger pains. I guess the only things I didn't try were street drugs. Eventually my body just gave out. Years ago I had seen a Doctor trying to get some help, and I remember him telling me that the best medicine for me was food. Needless to say I didn't believe him. When my body finally gave out and I was left with two choices- live or die-I decided to live!! Now, that may sound easy enough, but when you have twenty plus years of stubborn and stupid beliefs it gets rather over whelming. Thankfully I did know enough about weight lifting that this was my basic starting point. One day I was surfing the net and came across this site. I began reading at first in my bed and then began doing what I was reading. I couldn't believe it, that Dr. was right!! Food, yes, simple, healthy, right food. I began to slowly gain my strenght back by eating five times a day and working out in my bedroom three times a week. My Doctor could hardly believe that I could go from barely walking and weighing 100lbs to pumping iron at the local gym in four months. I still have a long way to go, but I feel like I have began a new life journey that I wish every one would try.
Why I Love It:
I love that it makes me stronger, healthier and independant.
How I Stay Motivated:
By getting stronger and healthier
BB Accomplishments:
For me, it is rather simple, I can walk on my own. Other than that I can feel my muscels growing and getting fuller. My out look in life is more positive and I can honestly say that yes, it is right, 80% diet 20% exercise. The other main accomplishment is that I have gained twenty lbs and lost 6 plus % body fat.
I am sick of being looked at as a sick weak person. I want to let myself be who I was meant to be. I guess I am ready to let the real me out. Be it average or awesome I think I'm ready. If I can take my passion and fire and re-direct it positivly, I wonder were I'll be in a year. Focus, direction and answers are the key!!!
