Overall Goal: My goal is to make the starting lineup on a local semi-pro women's tackle football team. Tryouts are sometimes in January... wish me luck!!!
I've been in the weight room since high school where I started because of various sports that I played.
Why I Love It:
Endorphins, endorphins, endorphins.
How I Stay Motivated:
I don't really need motivation to lift...just to do cardio. I just want to keep all of my parts connected and working out just feels good.

My motto was always to keep swinging. Whether I was in a slump or feeling badly or having trouble off the field, the only thing to do was keep swinging

Goal (Long):
I have been involved in competitive sports and lifting for most of my life. After competing in powerlifting, bodybuilding and figure competitions for several years I let that part of my life fall by the wayside as my professional career became more and more intense and time consuming. In 2007 I realized that I truly missed being an athlete, so I joined a local all woman's flat track roller derby team and began training hard again. Unfortunately in two separate incidents 5 months apart I injured first my right and the my left knee, requiring surgery on both. After the second injury I just sort of gave up. I couldn't work out, I couldn't skate... I felt like my body had betrayed me and I became very depressed. The depression led to a lot of couch surfing, overeating and partying way too often and pretty soon I realized I had gained about 15 pounds. I have decided now that I want to play semi-pro women's tackle football and am working my way towards that goals a little bit everyday.
I'm not one of the spandex girls. Not that there's anything wrong with it mind you. It's just that after almost 15 years of being oogled (sp?) on stage for a living, the last place I want guys to notice me is the gym. Because of this, and because I tend to be pretty antisocial when it comes...
Hi Lady, thank you so much for the lovely comment, good wishes, and friendship invite! Best wishes to you on your training for much success - so glad to hear you are mending - tell me about your tryouts! I hope your holidays are wonderful! Jen
Good luck getting your core back to normal. Amazing how all those little muscles tie in together and how when one is tweaked the rest of them don't want to move.
Just thought I'd say hello to a fellow skater! :) Saw your posts on the benching thread. I'm an inline speed skater. I was invited onto a newly forming roller derby team when I lived in NC but declined cause it would interfere too much with my speed skating.
