When I Started:
Feb, 2006
How I Started:
I started working for the Air Force as a contractor collecting and testing blood for our military in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a contractor, I had free access to the gyms on base. I started going to the gym on my lunch breaks and sometimes before work. That was a little over 2 yrs ago.
Why I Love It:
At first, I just wanted to get to a point where I looked good and then just maintain. Eventually I started to enjoy working out and now it is no longer about maintaining my waist size or my overall figure but more about challenging myself to go a little bit futher.
How I Stay Motivated:
My previous job working for the Air Force required me to travel alot so I really had no set workout schedule therefore I would miss days and lose motivation to complete the rest of the weeks training schedule. My new job is more regular and requires no travel so my routine is like clock work. I haven't missed a day yet. To me, having a set schedule is my motivation. I know that when I get off of work that its time to lift weights and go home.

What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
Most of my injuries were strains and pulls due to trying heavier weight than I was ready for. Everyone walks into the gym at least once in their life thinking they can lift 500lbs. It can be a humbling experience especially when 200lbs was closer to the truth. Most of my injuries were strains and pulls due to trying heavier weight than I was ready for. What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
At first, you should really try to find a somewhat experienced friend to workout with to show you the ropes and to keep you motivated. After those first couple months you should be hooked and it will be much harder to skip a training day.At first, you should really try to find a somewhat experienced friend to workout with to show you the ropes and to keep you motivated.
