When I Started:
Jan, 2008
How I Started:
I have always been fascinated by bodybuilding and fitness athletes. When I was younger, I was in shape but that was due to sports - my eating was always horrible. As I got older and continued in my bad eating, the weight began to come on. I tried to "work it off" and continue eating poorly but was unsuccessful. I joined a gym in 2007 and began working out and cleaned up my eating and lost 15 lbs. One of the trainers saw my discipline and suggested I consider competing. At the beginning of the year, he gave me a workout plan and I got with the gym owner, Rodney, for my meal plan(s). And the rest, as they say, is history!
Why I Love It:
Working out is a stress-reliever! I love strength training (which I rarely did before this year) because it totally reshapes your body and I feel like I conquer the world. I like the way I look on the outside but nothing can compare to the feeling of accomplishing your goal...whether that goal be to make it through a brutal workout, eat clean or compete. My mind has become more sharpened and strengthened as a result.
How I Stay Motivated:
I pray (no joke) for strength and the will to continue on my path. I also have DVD's that focus on figure that I pop in to keep me motivated. And the biggest motivator is definitely looking in the mirror and see how far I've come from the beginning of the year. I have no desire to go back so I have to continually move forward.
BB Accomplishments:
A major accomplishment was getting on that stage in April! It takes nerve to compete! My initial goal for the beginning of the year was to compete for the first time in May so I exceeded that goal. My main accomplishments have been the judges telling me, from each show, that I continue to improve. That is what I strive for.
I want to continue building muscle to balance out my proportion and symmetry for figure competition.
Goal (Long):
I've wrapped up my first year of competition after recently deciding not to compete in a couple of months. I competed in April (3rd place), May (2nd place) and July (2nd place) and decided to wait until next year to do it again. My goal now is to continue to improve and of course, win my class and an overall figure title. Between now and my next show, I need to build more muscle, which is not as easy as people think!
