I decided to take a weightlifting class my sophomore year of high school to help me gain strength back after a serious injury six months before.
Why I Love It:
I fell in love with it almost instantly because of the changes I was seeing in myself physically and mentally. I still love the euphoric feeling I get after a really good workout session.
How I Stay Motivated:
All I have to do is look in the mirror. I have had a few injuries along the way that caused me to stop lifting for months at a time. I hated how weak I felt and looked when this happened. I am also not happy with my body fat percentage. I have made some weight loss progress over the past couple of years, and I know I have a ways to go yet.
I have also recently started competing in powerlifting to help motivate me with my weight goals and to help push myself in the weight room as well.
BB Accomplishments:
3/28/2009: 100% RAW Nebraska State Powerlifting Championships - 3rd place Open Bench Press, 198lb weight class.
11/21/09: Omaha Open Powerlifting Championships - 1st place Open Bench Press, 198lb Raw weight class.

What is the most common reason that somebody gets injured while lifting?
Improper technique, and lifting heavy without a spotter.

What is the most dangerous weightlifting exercise? Why?
Any exercise done behind the head (lat pulldowns, military press, etc.), upright rows, or cambered bench press. All of these can lead to serious shoulder injuries (distal clavicle osteolysis, torn rotator cuff, detached bicep tendon, etc.).Any exercise done behind the head (lat pulldowns, military press, etc.), upright rows, or cambered bench press. Aight here's I do it man. Sunday - Flat Bench, Incline, Decline, Flys (all 3 sets of 8). Tues - Incline and Decline (sets 12, 8, 6, 4). Thurs - FlatBench and flys (pyramid (12, 8, 6, 4). Do one with with dumbbells one with barbell. I hardly ever hit a plateau.
Elusive is a good word, lol! So far my best is 380 in competition. I had a failed attempt at 390 in comp a few weeks ago but i was down to 190 bodyweight. I can do 405 at the gym with no pause and my spotter barely tapping it. Hopefully early next year like you. Whats your best so far in competition?
I usually start to warm up when the flight before me starts their 2nd attempts. I only do a few light to med weights for 2 to 3 reps. I might hit a high 4 board with about 80% of my opener then relax until its my turn on the platform.
I train bench 2x a week. One speed day and one heavy day. I dont train a week before a meet. I usually go in 7 days before a meet and hit my openers then do nothing until the day of the meet.
I would try taking branched chain amino acids, they have worked wonders for me in that respect. You can cut back your calories, drop weight and still increase your strength by keeping your body in an anabolic state. I would take about 10-15 grams before and after training. The powdered form is the most economical.
