When I Started:
Jan, 2001
How I Started:
I grew up watching my father workout and always wanted to "Be big like him". I was always a big kid...not obease however anything but lean (haha).
I started to work out later in my teens and nothing really came from it as i didn't have a clue what i was doing and didn't really get any help.
When I was approx 21 I suffered a back injury which still affects me to this day. It took my then bodyweight of 210 (36 pant) to a weight of 240 and a 38 pant.
Making a really long story short, i fought the daily pain (against doctors who told me i'd never be able to do it) and was able to make progress and move back down to my usual weight. By then i had purchased subscriptions to all the mags, and did everything i could to learn. I competed in 2005 @ the atlantic bodybuilding championships in the welter weight catagory @ 166.5lbs.
As my father saw the changess happening he also decided to join in and we were the first Father / Son Team in the enitre history of the compeition.
HOWEVER i now realize that I lost alot of muscle during my 70lbs loss. I had never been under 200 since grade 8 or 9 and i was scared i wouldn't make my weight class.
Looking back I was just "a weight lifter" then and NOW I have turned to the "science" of Bodybuilding to learn about FAT LOSS not WEIGHT LOSS. After the comp, i went back up to about 210 for the next year of training and then i recently cut down to 185 about 3 months ago.
I fit into the same 30-32 pants now at 20lbs heavier.
Why I Love It:
It's my meditation. I channel everything into into it.
How I Stay Motivated:
Depends on my current goals.
The mirror. That's what motivats me currently since my goal is to get down to 10% bf.
I always keep the issues of Fitness RX or MD around.
I look at progress pics over the last few years and I can see that there is progress.
BB Accomplishments:
losing 70lbs and just having the balls to stand on stage!
Still not too much accomplished as i'm still sick. I've been following a reduced calorie plan since i haven't been getting any activity other than channel surfing all week.
