It sure would be nice for someone to tell me exactly what I need to do. Unfortunately, I don't think there is one answer. Even if I progressed as fast as I could, there would be someone (maybe even myself) saying I could have done it faster by doing this or lifting that way. I've managed to pretty much avoid taking the shortcuts that lead to dead ends. I do take time to experiment and learn. My two-week jaunt that ended a little over a week ago was a good learning experience. And I did change my... Go to BodyBlog
jmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "Growing & Learning".
While I'm disappointed in the results so far of my two week experiment, I did gain some valuable information. And in a way, the education gained may be more valuable than the fat that didn't budge. The information nuggets found aren't earth shattering. In fact, the answers were obvious. But sometimes a live demonstration helps see to what degree decisions we make affect our bodies. A steady diet matters when you are attempting to reach a goal. Falling off the wagon even briefly delays your goal.... Go to BodyBlog
jmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "Find mistakes and fix them".
Things aren't exactly as they seem, or so it seems... I worked hard last week and this week, watching my intake closely and pushing myself at the gym. I changed my workout to temporarily being all cardio. The result? I can run farther than I thought, and my waist went from 34" to 35". That's not what I expected. But hey, it has been less than 2 weeks. So I'll decrease the kilocalories and change my workout. My attempt for the next month is to have a new routine of lifting combined with... Go to BodyBlog
jmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "A little experiment".
I'm a few days away from concluding a little experiment. I seem to be stuck in a rut, so I'm more than half way through taking 2 weeks away from the weights and concentrating on cardio. I'll finish the week and see what happens, but the gist seems to be that I need cardio to burn the fat, but need weights to build muscle. My 2600 kilo calorie diet seems to be the right number to maintain the weight, but to bulk and not gain fat I'm going to have to do more cardio. That is the conclusion I am... Go to BodyBlog
jmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "Do I have what it takes to get it fixed?".
So many questions, so few answers. I am at the point where I am finding it difficult to figure out what to pursue. I know I have plenty to work on, and I don't feel I've mastered any one thing. But I do not want to be stuck in a rut. I want to progress as fast as possible. What does one do? Okay, time to organize my thoughts. My overall goals are typical. I want to stay healthy. I want a perfect body. I do not have the time, dedication, or desire to compete. However I want to be... Go to BodyBlog

Jun 10, 2012 | Likejmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "Sugar Advertising".
There is no scientific study that shows children who stop drinking soda lose weight. There is no scientific study that shows HFCS is bad for you. But there is common sense. Unfortunately, it may be in short supply. Sure, listen to the American Beverage Association and the Corn Growers Association. But think about what they're telling you. Is sugar bad for you? The answer is... wait for it... "maybe." Question: Do you have a medical problem or health goal that could be... Go to BodyBlog
jmjatlanta created a new BodyBlog entry "You own an amazing machine".
It hasn't been the greatest year so far. Most of the problems have been self inflicted. The flu caught me big time in January. An infection in my big toe caused by an ingrown toenail kept me off the treadmill for a week. Playing racquetball last Wednesday messed up my shoulder and possibly my rotator cuff. I haven't been able to do any serious shoulder work since. Various muscle pulls have made me sore, or even caused pain at times. Poor diet choices have slowed my progress. Body... Go to BodyBlog
