I was a fat body out of college. 5'8" weighing in at about 200-210. I started by hardcore dieting in June 2008, a protein sparing modified fast type diet with light excercise for a couple months. Then I started hitting the gym for real and am very addicted to it now. My brother has been lifting for years, I used to always make fun of him because he was constantly looking in the mirror and I thought the whole idea of lifting was stupid. Bodybuilding is all I think about now; it's funny how things change like that.
Why I Love It:
There's so much I like about working out it's almost a bad thing, I think I'm a gym rat. I like the release of aggression when lifting. I like socializing at the gym. I like seeing results. I like the healthy feeling after a workout. And I love the independence of it, you don't need anyone else to work out; just yourself. And I really like other gym rats, I enjoy seeing other people with heart, sharing the sense of common goals, dedication, the will to be better, you know that eye of the tiger type quality.
How I Stay Motivated:
Well my gym is at my work so its pretty easy to go and I go when I get bored, I can't go a day without hitting the gym, the workday would seem like eternity. So boredome avoidance #1. #2, looking at myself in the mirror. Whether at the time I am liking what I see or not. If I like what I see it makes me feel good and motivates me to continue, if I don't like what I see I get motivated to improve.
BB Accomplishments:
For never lifting or doing anything of that sort and being a fat body... I got down to about 10% BF from about 25% and looked fairly ripped in about 6 months, I think that's a good accomplishment. I also just ran my first 5K today without stopping (sloped road course) 6-13-2009.

So this is about 1 month progress, not bad. You can see the abs coming in. Keep in mind too, these pics are flaccid, cold, in a bathroom with a ****ty camera and horrible lighting. I actually look much better than this. When i hit my target I will take some real pics.
Still seeing results. This is cold and after eating about 80 pounds of salad at Eat N Park. Starting to see good definition in legs, unfortunately though since my camera sucks and i'm taking the pics myself it kind of blurs out most of the fine details, which is kind of the point. oh well. And i ...
This is going to be where I keep track of my running training for a sloped 5k course and a mile run. The 5k course is road running and is not flat. The mile will be run on a flat track.
I lift weights about 5-6 days per week and run between 1-4 miles 2-4 times per week. I just hit body parts semi-randomly during the week, I don't have a plan for each day. I mean I target specific muscle groups for a day and rotate that area during the week but not in a specific routing...
One more thing... Its been roughly estimated that at 5'4" and 120lbs, I burn around 1200 calories just existing. You may want to increase your overall Kcals a bit to improve your energy levels for your running.
I briefly read through your blog entries. I used to run long distance in high school, but I never ate enough and therefore suffered. I would almost like to see your fat intake up to 30% and protein slightly decreased. I'm assuming you probably already consume a gallon of water a day, but taking in more fat will flush out the fat your body is holding onto and get you out of starvation mode. Your body needs fat to survive; it is not the enemy.
Hey James! Actually [hides her face] the number is much greater than 4800. (It just doesnt seem to go higher.) That's what I get after being a dedicated member for so long.
