Overall Goal: Don't give a hoot about aesthetics. Forget Frank Zane, I'd rather look like Markus Ruhl!
All measurements are cold and relaxed(except biceps, cold, flexed), eg forearms: arm and wrist straight, hand loose.

When I Started:
2003
How I Started:
Was a 130lb weakling for years after leaving school, but built up some in my late twenties and thirties. Then serious illness knocked me back to where I had started.
Had to do something!
Why I Love It:
Great sense of acomplishment when you lift even one kilo more than last week.
How I Stay Motivated:
Remember when even my daughter's 10lb dumbells were to much for me.
BB Accomplishments:
Can close Ironminds 1.5(170lbs) on demand for several rest pause singles, right hand. A few years ago, couldn't close the plastic handled York grippers(40lbs). Double bodyweight stiff leg deads, and 385 for 6 reps, singles that weight with a pronate grip. My forearms are bigger than my neck and arms used to be. Guys serious about lifting raw will understand. Started working on goodmornings, now at 70kg for 20 continuous reps, not rest pause.

Goal (Long):
Motivation comes from within. Get the attitude. Don't do the training to please others. If I did that, I'd play golf, or try to get toned, and wouldn't shoot for size and strength. I'd accept all kinds of limitations, and wouldn't push thru' or sneak around them.
In my late thirties my life went fubar due to ulcerative colitis. Had lots of the symptoms since my early twenties, but never let anything stop me. Then it got really bad and my health collapsed. I had a young family and couldn't cope, leaving all responsibility to my wife. Depression, anxiety attacks, didn't drive for over a year, agoraphobia, couldn't even visit the library, retired in my forties.
Guess what cured me?
Toxic megacolon, 10 years ago. Collapsed and went into hospital a soft 195lbs, and that was dehydrated. 4 units of blood first 24hrs, 9ltr rehydration. Got much worse. Surgery. Complications. Life support. Over a month intensive care. Most of that time couldnt move my head, just my right hand. Halucinated from all the morphine and steroids. Some of the time thought I was dead.......spent a lot of time in blackness just staring, terrified, at a friend who had died years before. He stared back. Had to learn to walk. Came out 130lbs, with all kinds of issues having lost my colon.
Guess what? WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU, MAKES YOU STRONG. Threw away my antidepressants, sleeping tablets etc. Havn't looked back. Started tutoring again.
Took over a year to build up to 140. Constant setbacks trying to build up, even my daughter's 10lb dumbells were too much......for years. Regular battles with exhaustion due to not being able to reabsorb vitamins, minerals, and water.
Overheard the nurse who used to visit talking to my wife. Don't expect him ever to be big and strong, she said. Well that did it! Went out to the back yard in my dressing gown, took half an hour to drag a ladder into position, grabbed the rung overhead, and let my knees sag. I did this for years 'til I could do a dead hangs, adding walking, isometrics-not exhausting at all, before I could lift weights.
We all have different goals, but they must be OUR goals, or we won't give it our all. I'm aiming to get to 260lbs at 15% bf, drug free, with a 300kg dead for reps. 'Course I've lots of intermediate goals to get to first. I'm tickled pink by the idea of being twice as big and several times as strong. Couldn't give a damn that almost everyone thinks this is unrealistic. I'm not sure what's impossible anymore.
Had to endure some health related layoffs, including 8 months to Jan 07. Want to keep my progress and posts honest, so all lifts quoted are free weights, done raw, and in strict form.
My squats suck. They are high bar, close stance, olympic style ass to the grass., as they hurt if I pause near parallel due to knee damage caused by smith machine squats. Want to hit 300lbs for reps this year and 400+ for reps longterm.
My deads are stiff leg style since bent leg hurts my knees which were trashed by my first year training (smith machine squats!). Want to hit 450 for reps this year and 500+ longterm, 600+ when I'm able to pull conventional.
Am the worst bencher and presser in the world relative to size because I trashed my shoulders in my first year(smith machine benches and presses!). My benches are close grip because of these shoulder issues, just did a few sessions to post a number.
Want to clean and strict press bodyweight+ for reps, but am miles away from this. Want to hit at least 150lbs for reps this year.(Do this easily on smith machine but my shoulders protest).
Only started curls recently so I could post a number, which I do very strict with my back to the wall. Want to hit 125 for reps this year, with no body english, and 150+ longterm.
My bodyfat is now 21%, down from 25, want to get it to a more reasonable 15%.
Weight Goal:
I want to GAIN 55 lb
Bodyfat Goal:
15%

Why I like this video: His deadlift is now approaching 1000lbs, and he is only 23. He has more than a decade of improvements ahead, barring injury. I've seen Andy Bolton's 1003lb deadlift and it was not locked out. Notice how Benni completely dominates the weight, putting it back down in a controlled negative. Benni is awesome. What's not to like.
Zorro! I am sending out a mass comment to all of my mutual friends. I hope all of you are focused and keep on keepin on! With the upcoming holidays, we need to stay in check and look our best for friends and families. Good examples ya know? Stay ACTIVE! KT
Cool.
My stupid knee has not healed completely so I can't work my legs or deadlift. :( It saddens me when I see other people working their legs lol. I hurt my knee in the first week of Feb. Tried going too heavy without warming up properly.
Anyway, it doesn't hurt too much now so I guess another 2-3 weeks and I'll be okay. Keep lifting hard!
Thanks for the reps bro and trust me, where I am now is much smaller than where I wanna be!!! Got a long way to go but comments like yours are really encouraging!
Hello, jgrey! Thank you for the reps! LOL, I'm always on my soapbox about shoulders, and their problems. I guess it's because that's pretty much what got me into bodybuilding in the first place. Your posts are always on-target; keep 'em coming!
