When I Started:
1994
How I Started:
The very first time I ever lifted a weight was in a weight-lifting class in high school. I was a freshman. I fell in love right away. What's not to love really? I dug the rush I got from lifting as well as the fact that I was one of only a few girls in the gym at any time... me and the guys.
Why I Love It:
I love being in shape for the way it makes me feel and the energy I have for life. I love the rush of a good workout and I love watching my muscles and my body transform with each workout that I do.
How I Stay Motivated:
This is one of the toughest things, I think. It's so easy to get tired, busy, unmotivated. My husband is a great source of motivation. I also read several fitness magazines and do lots of fitness reading online. Seeing another woman that I think looks better than me is also incredibly motivating.
BB Accomplishments:
UPDATE 24JUL07: Just completed my 12 week challenge. Lost 7 lbs and 4.66% body fat. My original goal was to loose 4-5% body fat so I made it! Need a break before making any decisions regarding future challenges, competitions, etc.

This is my before picture at the start of my 12-week challenge. I'm 145 and 22% body fat here.
This is one of my final pictures for my 12-week challenge with Jenny Lynn. I am very pleased with the results, to say the least! This is 137 pounds and 17.3% body fat.
It's been a long, cold winter at 9,000 ft above sea level. But it's starting to thaw, the days are getting longer, and it's time to get my butt back in gear. Here's to a tight, fit, 17% body fat bod by June 1 and the possibility of my first stage appearance in October...
Old-fashioned push-ups. Incline, decline, on the Bosu, on the fitball....

What is the one tip you would give somebody who is just getting started?
Take it easy at first. The risk of injury is much greater when a person is new to an activity and does not have that specific type of strength. Building strength slowly, but steadily, is the best way to find long-term success.Take it easy at first. I have worked with a pro before as well. I am now working with a trainer Darrin from emerge. He is way better. He knows all the little details. It really amazes me. Wel, keep with it!
