When I Started:

How I Started:
My best friend and I left our hometown to go to college and we new we needed to put on some muscle so we wouldn't be wimps. So we first started working out mainly to impress girls.... haha those were the days.
Why I Love It:
Its more than just looking good - its about the challenge, the pain. It takes so much mental focus and physical relentlessness. It is about breaking boundries and strengthening both body and character. It is a real test of diligence and what you are made of.
How I Stay Motivated:
I am never satisfied... I always strive to be the best, to look the best. I leave it all out on the gym floor. Firm believer that every rep counts, use of good form, and the pump. The pump is what I strive for.... just like Arnold said.... "It's like I'm cuming all the time".
Lately I have used BodySpace to increase my motivation. There are a lot of fit people in this community, and it helps to have others that inspire you to do more and be better.
Also, I recommend taking classes if your a member at a gym. There is a class every Friday I go to that keeps me focused and in shape.
And you want to surround yourself around positive people. I train with a friend who is always challenging me to strive to be better. It also helps my girlfriend is supportive of my bodybuilding lifestyle.
BB Accomplishments:
Placed 2nd in my first competition - 2009 Border States Competition on Oct. 17, in San Diego.
Looking forward to adding some mass this winter, and competing again next year.
Just looking at the picture makes me so proud how far I have come. I was into lifting, but new zero about diet. That has made all the difference in my lifestyle now.

What do you do before your workout to get motivated and energized?
There are a number of things. I sip on my pre-workout drink while researching information on Bodybuilding.com/BodySpace. Sometimes I read a fitness magazine. I love to listen to my music has loud as humanly possible. And I'll also focus on my goals - right now I am competing so I'll imagine myself on stage and how I want to look. That really gets the blood flowing and the heart pounding. I focus on my energy and will on the task at hand - leave all other stresses, weather it be girl troubles, money troubles, (or what have you) and leave it at home. Its time to go to work. Have you ever had a lifting injury?
Yes
What type of injury was it? How long were you injured? How did you recover?
I had a knee injury from lifting too heavy on squats and leg presses. I was young and stupid, and wanted to lift as heavy as I could. I thought that was the best way to get big. Now I know quality if better than quantity. I stretch before I workout, in between sets, and after. I also make sure my first set I go very slow and make sure to warm up. Its very important to go slow at the bottom and not bounce (jerky movements = injury). I had a knee injury from lifting too heavy on squats and leg presses. I took some rest days here from the weights. I run a lot at my part-time job (valet), and its a lot of sprints, running up stairs, running up incline, so I didn't really feel the need to catalog this. I kept my diet clean, but with a much lower calorie and carb...
Thanks for the add. Seeing you photos on stage got some wheels in my mind turning about entering natural competitons in a couple of years or so, when I've done my 180 degree body turn.
Thanks for the message. I'll give it a go starting November. I just wanna see where this Keto will take me for a month. Your photos are insane! Great job at the comp!
Hey bro... freaking amazing work on the competition! I'm looking to shed a few without losing muscle (like everyone else) I'm trying to follow the keto diet and lost 6lbs in 3 weeks, but it's plateaued a bit. What would you suggest?
How were you able to lose weight (fat, as per your before photo) and gain muscle (from your after photo)? Were you able to accomplish the dual goal simultaneously or had to work on them separately? Sorry to mention the "f" word, but that is the question. By the way, great progress! Thank you.
